On 14–15 Sept, the ASSURED Workshop brought together 🇩🇪 🇬🇧 🇨🇦 Research Data Center professionals to address AI integration in RDCs & TREs. We explored technical, risk & governance challenges around sensitive data, and how targeted training can bridge these gaps. 👇 / 📸 See image!

The 4 key messages: (i) Researchers need the "why" behind rules, while staff need understanding of AI mechanics, and clear criteria for legal and ethical reviews, (ii) Staff need risk tools, data categories, and AI training; researchers need clear usage guidelines and recommended tools, (iii) Grow staff expertise, train researchers, and align on legal AI policies, guidelines, and standard RDC layouts, (iv) Connect regularly: share ideas, build common outputs, secure joint funding, and maintain momentum with post-workshop wrap-ups.

Making sensitive data accessible needs practical skills, not just legal rules. 65% of service providers in a @cessda.bsky.social study named training their top need. The ASSURED project fills this gap with modular e-learning for researchers and certification for data staff. 🔗 assured-training.org

Between April and May 2025, the group surveyed 20 Service Providers (i.e., institutions that provide access to research data) across Europe to understand what stands in the way of sharing sensitive data, and what support would help.
