Never meet you heroes, they say. Well, about that... Yesterday, I met @coachbennett.bsky.social at the Copenhagen Marathon #CPH42 expo!!! I am truly happy for meeting one of my heroes, and grateful. This was a surprisingly emotional moment for me. Thank you, Coach.

Det minder mig om en klassisk vittighed fra sovjet-tiden.

A man in Moscow goes up to a newsstand and buys a newspaper…

He then glances at the front page, then turns aside and tosses the whole newspaper straight into the trash.

Next day, he turns up, and does the same thing. Buys it, glances at the front page, throws it in the trash.

Next day, same thing. The newsstand worker is increasingly puzzled, but doesn't say anything.

But eventually, after a couple of weeks of this, he can't take it. "I'm sorry, friend, but I must ask: why do you buy the paper every day and then just look at the front page and throw it out?"

"Oh, I'm just checking for something."

"OK, but: what are you checking for?"

"I'm checking for a particular obituary."

"But sir, you don't even open the newspaper! The obituaries aren't even on the front page!"

"Oh, believe me, the one I'm waiting for will be."

Overall conclusion: *a lot* of "information disorder" stuff goes on in the online public sphere. But that does not mean that what we see is a full-out information disorder, and it should not be confused with other types of protest, activism, contestation, and public participation.

My local library has an entire section where it promotes banned books (e.g., The Satanic Verses, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, the Harry Potter series, and Gender Queer). It's part of a week-long campaign for freedom of speech. But I hope they keep it up permanently. Read a book. Join the resistance.

BOOM!! Copenhagen Marathon done and conquered! Almost all the race, I was in control and executed my plan; then I had some kms with stomach issues that slowed me down and were hard; then I overcame it and finished strong. I enjoyed it and am happy, content, proud. Also, new PR! #SkyRunDK #Cph42

Sam: I know. It's all wrong. By rights we shouldn't even be here. But we are. It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something.
Frodo: What are we holding onto, Sam?
Sam: That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo... and it's worth fighting for.
