If advances in coding agents make the social and collaborative aspects of software development unnecessary, including both open-source contributions and collaboration within companies, then there’s no need to use GitHub anymore, right? It would be little more than a software distribution platform.

Vibe-coded apps built by non-developers are starting to spread, and, unsurprisingly, they’re riddled with bugs: forms that don’t save submissions, inaccurate accounting reports, and the list goes on. I just wish they’d at least test them.

Fewer SaaS companies than expected actually managing AWS unit economics rigorously? Even amortization often seems missing. Maybe Finance doesn’t fully understand engineering, engineering doesn’t fully understand Finance. Tight collaboration just feels like too much hassle for both sides.

For now, approach AI with a trader’s mindset. Be ready to reverse course and avoid overcommitting. The space is fast-moving and fluid, with little durable accumulation. Try things, switch quickly, and discard what doesn’t fit.

Measuring the impact of AI is hard. Of course, we have to design with the full understanding that token metrics are largely meaningless. Outputs and outcomes aren’t easy to capture as data, and even when they are, they’re not something you can quickly act on.

Python Defaults That Hurt Performance
Python is often described as slow, but much of that perception comes not from the language itself, but from common usage patterns that quietly hurt performance.

When working with AI, including coding agent, knowing when to cut your losses is key. It’s probabilistic, so when things don’t go well, quitting early saves you. Keep pushing and you’ll spiral into wasted time and effort. Practice with stock trading if you need to get better at that skill🫠

It seems people are often more hesitant to change development tooling than production code, even when the change is small. It does add a bit of extra work, after all. That’s why the development environment in a repository can stay unchanged for a surprisingly long time.

Pinning package versions is ideal from a security perspective, but it makes module duplication even worse. Tough trade-off. If you maintain cleanly-separated internal packages, a catalog is pretty much mandatory. Still, the blast radius grows either way… there’s no easy path.
