I noticed something happened to my arm today. It has definition. I guess science is right, the gym works. 🧑🏻‍🔬🧬💪🏼
Handsome (and single) Asian man from Korea wearing a blue cut off tshirt and denim shorts. He's actively taking a selfie in a Spanish elevator while holding his dinner in a plastic bag, coconut water, and a small box of coke zero sugar zero caffeine. One can see that he is appreciating seeing muscular definition in his left bicep after many months of hard work in the gym.

I'd like to throw it out there that I would like to clean up your Figma files. It doesn't sound hard or glorious to some, but to me it's everything. 🧹🏗️🥰🤝

👨🏻‍💻 Figma practice day 2. Shaking off a little more of the sabbatical design rust. Ad cards for fun while waiting for the Wise chatbot support to answer my question, not fun. At least the cards were fun to make! Also credit to the Wise illustration team for the images I "borrowed". 👨🏻‍🎨
A screenshot of Figma design tool with 6 variations of banner ad cards. 4 cards have a heading that says "Save more with our summer deals!" 2 smaller cards have a heading that says Don't miss out on a summer of a lifetime. It should be noted that in the layers list each layer is clearly labeled and organized. Each cards has an illustration of a wallet with money flying out of it. There is a black call to action button on each that says "Get lifetime" as the ad is encouraging customers to purchase a lifetime tier.

In other news, I haven't opened Figma for 11 months. Today I did & wow, I felt like I hadn't used the tool in years. So many new features (& marketing pop ups 🤮)! It was frustrating to figure out how to do any of the old things. Eventually I started getting my rhythm back but wow, why so hard?

I don't normally share design-y opinions. But I like thinking about it in the comfort of my home and with a few peers. So sharing to the great internet abyss is new for me. I took the leap because I resonated with what I read and I hope it encourages a gentle discussion.(6/6)...6 😈

I think the idea of bridging the gap between design and development sounds like an endless crusade. Instead, I agree with Rune, I want to make some mess, find where I can pull, push, bend, & get a little out of the box. I want conversation around the work, not to feel like silos in a team relay(5/6)

"It might feel convenient at first, but it comes at a cost." The designer who asked for help is phenomenal and by no means lacked any skills. The files they needed to navigate were so wrapped in auto layout that any potential change felt impossible without crashing everything. (4/6)

A great example that Rune brings up is auto layout and how frustrating it can be to navigate a file that's fully conformed to this feature. At GitHub I sat with a designer who asked if I could teach them more about Figma because they just couldn't understand another team member's file. (3/6)

It's a short read but as a systems designer who aims to make work, efficient, and fun with my peers I always feel a certain guilt for how my work can feel limiting to their creativity. At what point are the features enough and a regular human conversation can help us move our best work forward.(2/6)

"The goal isn’t for designers to adopt engineering practices, but to bring distinct perspectives through an interdisciplinary way of collaborating." I really appreciated this little piece from @runemadsen.com. designsystems.international/ideas/when-f... (1/6)

After about 11 months of my sabbatical, I've reopened @figma.com and made a button again. For fun. ☺️
Screenshot of Figma design tool on a MacOS machine. The file is named "Button practice" and it contains three Figma components, Button, StylizedButton, and icon. This illustrates a designer shaking off the dust and coming back to basics.

There was a plant sale for a shop closing down and this baby was the last to be left. Welcome home bb 🌱

Today I went paddle boarding in the ocean for the first time in Barcelona and I just want to say, life outside of tech, AI, screens, etc... is amazing and so refreshing.

Since May I've been using the @nothingtechnology.bsky.social 3a as my main phone and honestly, I absolutely love it! For what I need, this phone just does exactly what I need it to. Enjoy some of my favorite shots around Barcelona

I've spent the better part of these past few years off feed-like socials (aside from the cursed IG but hey, no one is perfect) and found that most of my pals are here on Bluesky. Late to the party but still in attendance.
