MM9 released 14 years after MM6, the last game to genuinely have that style. Groove released 11 years after Megamix. The numbers boggle my mind. Is the 3DS now about as far back as the NES was when MM9 came out? It can be hard to accept that one changes with the course of time.

Rhythm Heaven Groove feels like something made for that era of Nintendo. They nailed the look and the feeling of joyous fun. This does not feel like a first-party game released in 2026. Maybe this uneasy feeling I have is similar to seeing Mega Man 9 for the first time, with its retro graphics.

I don't mean to parrot old talking points, but the Switch experience definitely felt a little sterile, especially compared to the Wii U and 3DS. The Switch 2 has done nothing to liven things up.

I'm playing it, like all Switch games now (aside from Pokemon games which seem to not allow you to carry over save files), on the Switch 2. But Switch 2 exclusive games just feel like they could have been on the Switch, graphics aside.

It's weird to think of Rhythm Heaven Groove as one of the final Switch games. The Switch 2 really doesn't feel like much of a change to me. I think back to all the different Nintendo systems and they all felt like brand new experiences after the ones before them.

Part of me wonders if I would have enjoyed this game even more twenty years ago. I no longer play minigames in the hopes of getting better at them and scoring higher, and sometimes it's a little frustrating to play for two to three minutes just to be one input away from a medal.

Having a great time with Rhythm Heaven Groove. Seriously fantastic. Having only played the DS and Wii entries, there are a bunch of references I'm only familiar with due to YouTube, but they are all delightful.

Just finished the fifth chapter of Deltarune. I think what I love most about this game is how it captures a very specific feeling of nostalgia. Not just "hey, remember X?" but evocative of an entire generation growing up with and alongside video games. Particular moments and a lifetime of memories.

Picked up a Twin Famicom at a Book-Off in Hiroshima last week. Sadly, the stack of games I got with it mostly don't work, but I am enjoying Yume Kojo Doki Doki Panic just fine.
