The stats for my submissions this year are: Ages: Young Adult = 13.04% Middle Grade = 39.1% Adult = 47.82% I never expected to get any Adult manuscripts that fit my caveats, so this was a happy surprise. I definitely expected more YA subs. But all my MG subs 💗 🤗🥰 #10Queries #RevPit

Case in point: Stephen Graham Jones once talked about how his copyeditor misunderstood the voice of his Indigenous vampire character in THE BUFFALO HUNTER HUNTER because he hadn't written it out in a style sheet. He had to go back & fix it himself because his CE edited it with a white, Western lens.

It may reduce costs as some editors charge extra for creating a style sheet for the client. The biggest plus is that it helps to avoid misinterpretation and misrepresentation, especially with BIPOC characters, during the editing process. #RevPit #AskEditor

Why? you ask. It takes away a lot of the guess work for us as editors to have a clear vision of how you see your characters & envision your world. It helps to save us time & allows us to focus on fine-tuning your story to the best of our abilities. Less brain energy wasted=better edits. #Ask Editor

It is similar to when you outline your characters, determine timelines & build the world your story lives in. My tip is: Clean up & streamline those notes & share with your editor so they can learn about them from your POV. It will reduce your editor's workload during the edit. #RevPit #AskEditor
