I did my best to compile as many protest safety notes as possible into a one page foldout zine! Coincidentally…it seems the file has breached containment…like it’s available for anyone to print or hand out 👀⚖️ toonyart.com/s/PSZine.pdf

The cover spread from a one page zine printout. The left (back cover) features images of a scale and gavel, with notes on First Amendment and filming rights, and the advice to “shut the fuck up.”

On the right is the cover, a megaphone with the title text “PROTEST SAFELY.” Behind it are faceless protestors. The subtitle notes, “A brief collection of tips from around the internet.”

A spread from one page zine printout.
On the left is an illustration of a protestor with the title “What to Wear,” including a helmet, goggles, ear plugs, gloves, a mask, a backpack, and layers/long sleeves/pants. Each have additional notes explaining their use.

On the right is “What to Bring,” featuring illustrations of a backpack, money, water bottles, a mask, a granola bar and bag of trail mix, a first aid kit, folded shirt and pants, and an ID, with “DIY Defense” listed underneath it showing one protestor using a luggage case, one holding a trash can lid, and one using an open umbrella as a shield.

A spread from one page zine printout.
On the left is “Protect Your Identity,” advising to cover up identifying features, avoiding photography of protesters, deactivating biometric phone-unlocking tools, and writing emergency contact and counsel numbers on your arm.

On the right is “Be Like Water,” the motto of the 2019 Hong Kong protests, and the text “BEWARE THE BAIT” with images of a palette of bricks and a masked man holding a crowbar toward a protestor with a sign, “Psst, free crowbar?” encouraging the reader not to engage with traps and undercover agents.

A spread from one page zine printout featuring the hazards of protest opposition, including tear gas, rubber bullets, and LRAD sound cannons and flash bangs. Caution tape images accompany the text explaining the dangers of each, how to flush out eyes that have been maced/etc, and how to extinguish a gas canister with a traffic cone.

I’m finally getting my multi-week handbuilding class! I know my audience here isn’t as local to Toronto as my IG following is, but if you could boost/share I would be so grateful! I really want to teach this class!! We’ll be spending more time refining and decorating than in a one off workshop.

A bunch of white bisqueware stacked and tumbled together. Two moustachioed Cowboy dudes, some small spoons and a bud vase, some stacked bowl things and a very upset tulip. Surrounding the ceramic pieces are handlettered words: “Handbuilding and Surface Design with Britt (me!) May 7-28th 4 weeks! @Parkdale Pottery”

My worm composting zine is now FREE to download!!! Learn how to befriend worms today! ko-fi.com/s/daf21e07f3

cover illustration of a worm wrapped around the planet earth, both with smiling faces and hearts around them. the title reads, "Worm Friends! A Beginner's Guide to Vermicomposting" by cryoflower

illustration of to worms smiling and talking to each other.
Text reads:
Do you want to reduce your household kitchen waste? Are you looking for a great source of fertilizer for your garden? Do you just think worms are neat and want to learn how to befriend them? No matter your reasons, you are welcome to join me in the amazing world of vermicomposting! Experience the magic of seeing our little wormy friends turn our garbage into amazingly nutritious compost!

What is Vermicomposting?
Vermicomposting is a composting method that uses worms to turn organic waste into nutrient-rich worm castings. It's a great way to lower individual waste output and is ideal for those who live in apartments and lack outdoor access. (Illustration of food scraps being turned into compost.) It can be done with several different earthworm species, but Red Wigglers are the most commonly used. These worms can be purchased online through composting supply stores or bought in-person at fishing bait stores. You can also get a handful of worms from a friend! (You will have to wait for the colony to grow large enough to handle household waste, though). (Illustration of a worm on a fish hook saying, "Wait... Did you say... BAIT??"

Pros & Cons: As with everything, worms have their strengths and weaknesses! Pros: can be done indoors in a container, very cheap, easily scalable with more bins and worms, if you enjoy worms, they double as pets! (illustration of 3 worms partying in a bin, with one of them putting a coin into a piggybank). Cons: limited by how much the worms can eat (overfeeding can cause problems), certain foods are unsuitable (more details later), can attract pests. (Illustration of a worm picking at a plate of food, while a fly hovers nearby and says, "Hey... You gonna finish that?")

A little about why I decided to stay indie moving forward: It has somehow reached a point where there are oddly more benefits being indie than if I were to do studio work. The biggest being I own and decide what I do with my work. For decades animation workers have given IP for a flat paycheck
