Our local business park kindly provided cycle parking. This business then ripped out the Sheffield stands.
A canopy for cycle parking but the Sheffield stands have been removed and replaced with a picnic table.

A good year for blackberries and grapes but terrible for apples & pears.

I love it now when there’s a windy day as I know the turbines will be generating and the wholesale prices tumble down.
Graph showing the price per Mega Watt Hour electricity generation on a windy day. Often at around £100 today it went so low it went negative!

We need more schemes like this that help people try e-bikes as I am convinced that many non believers would be converted once they try them and realise the joys of cycling. (and the cost benefits)

It’s so sad that it is sooo hard to get a new path registered as a footpath. DMMO 5 yrs on and still a long way to go for my favourite dismantled railway line

If AI is so intelligent how come it is incapable of spelling? After helping me create a logo it now refuses to correct the spelling mistake 😤😆
AI created Logo suggested for Ashby Footpaths Group with a picture of a group of people walking along a path in countryside towards a town. Around the image is the name of our group but it has spelt paths with a double letter T.

Tricycles especially with e assist are such great options for people who worry about balance. A good basket on the back and segregated paths to feel safe on are all my mother dreams of (on fine weather days 🙄)

Observations from a recent holiday in France: 2. They drive smaller cars. Yes some estates, vans or people carriers but generally far fewer SUV’s and some tiny micro cars!

Getting the car ferry from Plymouth (UK) to Roscoff (France) and was amazed how many cyclists were using this route! Many were e-bikes on holiday. One older couple I spoke to were from Brussels and had crossed from Calais to Dover and were cycling a big loop home!

I’m so lucky to have the Cloud Trail, part of NCN6, on my doorstep. When life gets stressful there’s nothing more settling than a bike ride out into countryside. The beautiful river Trent and canal path are my favourite.

I love travelling by train. Looking out the window at Englands green and pleasant land, being nosy into back gardens and spotting the occasional big house on a hill. But for this money we should at least get a seat and be able to see out of the window! 😢
Looking along a train carriage where lots of people are having to stand squashed together as all seats are full.

Our local landmark is going to be demolished 😢 The brickworks made bricks from the local clay and had its own system of railways and trucks to move stock around. The chimney should have been protected.

You’ve gotta love a double decker train! (until you realise you’re in a silent carriage and get shushed for talking 🫣😄).

Vienna has excellent cycling infrastructure where cyclists are clearly segregated from pedestrians in the busy areas.

As well as clean toilets in most underground stations (cost €0.6) Vienna also provides lots of drinking water fountains.
A big column on the street states ‘Drink Water’ and has a water fountain to fill water bottles.

I’m sure my holiday photos are a bit mad but I can’t help taking pictures of things that bemuse or interest me! Walking through back streets in Vienna and just one section of road seemed to be being dug up to lay track for light rail or tram? Yet not connected to anything yet 🤷🏼‍♀️
A section of road is closed off while railway tracks are being laid, yet they don’t seem to connect to anything!

Play streets, school streets or just quiet streets where cars are not priority seem to be common in Vienna.
A street next to a school has a sign showing children playing but careful cars are allowed. There are bikes and scooters parked and chalk drawings on the road.A side street has the children playing sign where careful cars are allowed. There are bikes parked a rain garden and a sign directing the cycle route.

Ok, so I know I am a country bumpkin (only lived in rural villages) on a grand European imperial city tour, but sometimes it’s the not so little things that catch my eye like enormous impressive doorways!

Continuing the European tour by train, Vienna has very impressive rain gardens or SUDS!
Many pedestrian streets in Vienna have areas of planting and trees where the rain water goes, helping to reduce local flood risk and making nice places to be.

I don’t think painting a bike symbol in the middle of the road provides any safety or incentive to cycle or am I missing something? Tourist in Prague.

Continuing our inter-rail journey & now in the ancient and beautiful city of Prague! Sooo many huge ornate buildings and a fantastic public transport network (buses, trams and metro) yet clogged up and ruined by traffic! 🤷🏼‍♀️ Terrible for cycling and lots of pavement parking. Still recommend tho 😆
Beautiful cobbled streets and buildings on the steep climb up to the castle. Roads are full of traffic and parked cars spoiling the historic feel of the place. Also lots of tourists.Parked cars diagonally halfway onto the wide pavements are often the norm here.Rows of beautiful old buildings six stories high ornate with decorative features, windows and balconies. In the foreground are two trams, one old and one new.

Berlin has risen from the ashes. Not just rebuilt where buildings were destroyed but also replanted with thousands of trees! Every street is a tree lined boulevard. Shade, oxygen and a wonderful atmosphere provided by them.
Big trees along both sides of most streets provide shade and improve the feel of the places.Trees around roads and paths through the park help keep people cool from the sun.

I’m visiting Brussels and the local underground station here has not one, not two but three separate secure bike storage facilities for different types of bike! Plus lots of bike racks and a large bike maintenance shop all underground!
Special secure storage for cargo bikes and non standard bikes.A secure bike storage facility for non standard bikes such as those with child seats.A big bike part shop with a maintenance facility. I think you could go there with all sorts of problems and they would try to help get you going again.
