Update —June 17, 2026: Thank you for rocking with us and standing in solidarity on this journey.
STATEMENT ON UNFAIR LABOR PRACTICE CLAIM

On behalf of One TRiiBE United, the Chicago News Guild withdrew its Unfair Labor Practice charge against The TRiiBE on June 8. Though the National Labor Relations Board did not find the charge worth pursuing, we maintain that the termination was unjust and demonstrates a pattern of behavior by management that led to members organizing to form a union.

We stand firm in our belief that management took action intentionally, knowing the harm it would have on the unionization drive, leading to the eventual defeat of a union in the workplace. Members sought to form a union for employee protections. The NLRB result offers insight into why employees fight to unionize, as laws are set up to protect employers and not workers.

We appreciate all the continued support through this battle. One TRiIBE United was created with thought and care to ensure protections to create a more equitable and sustainable working environment, not only for current employees of The TRiiBE, but for those to come.

Peace.

I caught up with Anjanette Young, who has a new exhibit at the DuSable Museum. It’s a collection of artwork representing not only her experience with the police but that of other Black women and girls. thetriibe.com/2025/03/anja... 📸: @ash.thetriibe.com

Please pray for people working in the news. Not only are we combatting mis/disinformation, having to write and dissect the impacts of these orders, laws and whatever is draining! 😔

NEW — The $17.1 billion budget does not increase property taxes or cut city services. It maintains investments that reflect Mayor Johnson’s campaign promise to invest in people. “This is the largest number of city-funded youth jobs in the history of this city.” thetriibe.com/2024/12/afte...

New by me: Woodruff exists in the tradition of Black liquor founders who experienced barriers to becoming the front person of alcoholic brands. The most notable being Nathan “Nearest” Green, the former enslaved man who taught Jack Daniel how to distill whiskey.
