Did you know? The colour green was originally chosen for the aromanticism flag since it's the opposite of red on a colour wheel. (And red is the colour most commonly associated with romantic love.)
A flag consisting of 5 horizontal stripes, from top to bottom: green, light green, white, grey, black.

Scan from an 1976 article in an gay magazine which discusses asexuality in some depth [1]. It's interesting to see how the Asexual Manifesto has echoed through time up to the present day. #asexualhistory [1]: Turner, Greg (1976). Sexual identity. Gay Liberator, issue 48, 1976, p. 6.
A scan of a paragraph on a newspaper or magazine page. A title reads "SENSUALITY" under which there is one paragraph reading "As in the Asexual Manifesto, I knew that I liked, that I needed, physical contact with other humans. Since I took all sexual conotations out of this, I picked up on the concept of sensuality; simply enjoying physical pleasure in one's body."

Had this – er, well-fed –squirrel eyeing up my spreadsheets today. Wonder if it thinks they’ll help it keep track of its acorns.
A fat squirrel sitting on some man-made planks with green foliage in the background. The squirrel is facing diagonally away from the viewer but has turned it head over its shoulder to see the camera

This picture is an excerpt of a letter [1] written to Heresies magazine which appeared in a 1981 issue. In response to an article focusing on marginalised sexualities the author remarked "I also felt a bit left out [but] it's hard for me to believe that there are no others who share my situation".
Scan of a magazine reading: It would be a lot easier to refute these messages, to say, "I am what I am and there's nothing wrong with it," if we asexuals had the help of a support group such as lesbians and gay men have. The problem is that asexuals don't organize to support each other; most of us are ashamed to admit our situation even to close friends, let alone march up Fifth Avenue shouting it to the world. And yet how much more we need this support, how good it would be if we could have it!

This picture is an excerpt from a 1980 research paper and depicts one of the earliest scientific models of asexuality. [1] [1]: Storms, Michael D. (1980). Theories of sexual orientation. Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. 38 (5): 783–792. doi:10.1037/0022-3514.38.5.783.
A two-dimensional grid divided into four quadrants. The quadrants are labelled (clockwise from top-left): "HOMOSEXUALS", "BISEXUALS", "HETEROSEXUALS", "ASEXUALS". The y-axis is labelled "HOMO-EROTICISM" and the x-axis is labelled "HETERO-EROTICISM". The figure is captioned "Four orientation categories generated by a two-dimensional model."
