Luna has been at the Cheyenne Animal Shelter for 2 months. It often takes longer to adopt out dogs like Luna who do not get along with other animals. She has been renamed Madame Ophelia-renaming often helps with adoption-but she'll always be Luna to me.
Light brown pit bull with a white blaze on her face and white feet. Her ears are relaxed and her tongue is out.

Pinto wins the title of furriest dog at the Cheyenne Animal Shelter! He is extremely patient for a Siberian husky and does not pull as hard as I would expect. He is a 5-year-old male, still with plenty of get-up-and-go!
Purebred Siberian husky stares straight at the camera.

Dude doesn't like having his neck pulled at, but he loves to explore! No leashes for this guy! If you need to move him, he is is okay with being picked up. The Cheyenne Animal Shelter doesn't get a lot of small dogs, so he probably won't be there long!
White chihuahua mix with tan spots on his ears. He is off leash in the play yard and has his tongue out. This dog is 12 years old, but that's only middle aged for a dog his size.

Shadow has been at the Cheyenne Animal Shelter for over a month and just got put on the adoption floor this week. He spent most of that time recovering from ringworm. He knows Sit and lures to Down, but don't ask him to do it when he's distracted! He loves a good cuddle!

Bella has been at the Cheyenne Animal Shelter for a week. despite her blue heeler/pit bull heritage, she is incredibly friendly and lives to be with people! She loves treats, car rides, and playfully chasing shadows. She knows Sit and lures easily to Down (figured it out on her first try!).
Profile view of a dog who is white with brown patches and speckles. Her ears are pointy but flopped over. Her nose is black, and her mouth is slightly open with her tongue hanging out.

Hope has been on the floor at the Cheyenne Animal Shelter for only a couple of days. She is a gentle Australian cattle dog mix, who, being that breed, would like to go adventuring at least weekly. Once she gets her wiggles out, she's perfectly fine to hang around the house.
Mostly-white dog with pointed floppy ears. She has dark brown spots on the upper part of her head over her ears and lighter brown patches on her eyes. She is doing a bit of a tongue blep.

Astranova has been on the floor at the Cheyenne Animal Shelter for a little less than a week. She is listed as a mixed breed, but I'm positive one of those breeds is a border collie! She takes treats gently and doesn't pull at the leash. She is 9 years of pure positivity!
Black-and-white dog with pricked ears grinning at the camera. She has a black mask and a mostly-black body, with a white scarf over her shoulders and down her front legs.

Luna has been at the Cheyenne Animal Shelter for just under 2 months. She is an older dog and has allergies. She was happy to cuddle in her kennel, but once we were outside, she wanted to go forward!
Pit bull-type dog with a white blaze on her face, tan most everywhere else. Her ears are pointy, but flopped over. She has a big smile on her face.

Diva has been at the Cheyenne Animal Shelter a little over a week. She's listed as a German shepherd/husky, but pulls far less than I would expect of that breed mix. She loves to explore and would have happily gone through the fence if she could!
Female dog, black on top with white on her chest, belly, the backs of her legs, and het feet. Ears pricked, mouth slightly open.

Love the tone deafness from the Cheyenne City Council. Yet more debate on annexing and rezoning more land for data centers. Councilman Tom Segrave pointed out that in the recent election, all the members who ran anti-data center campaigns were voted out. Ergo, the people must want dara centers.

The Cheyenne Animal Shelter has Faline down as a mixed breed. She is that, but I'll be surprised if one of those breeds isn't whippet. She weighs less than 40 lbs. but is a strong little dog! She loves cuddles. She is a leaner when being petted.
Faline is a mostly-white dog with a few brown spots, most notably one over her eye. Her ears are pricked but bent over. She has a black nose. She is a long, thin dog-most likely her breed mix includes some sort of sighthound.

Luna has been at the Cheyenne Animal Shelter for a month. She has allergies, which are well-controlled with diet. She is a jumper when you first walk into her kennel, and her nails are a bit long, so beware! Her enthusiasm is one of the things that makes her special.
Luna is a mostly-brown pit bull with white on her head, neck, chest, and feet. Her pricked ears are relaxed, so they flop over. She has a long tail. Her mouth is open and her tongue is out. She is thoroughly enjoying herself.

Bean knows Sit, Shake, and Sit Pretty, and she does great on leash! She's a jumper at first, but she settles down once she gets out of the kennel and starts walking. She has been at the Cheyenne Animal Shelter for just over a month, so I can't blame her for wanting some exercise.
Bean is a brown-and-white pit bull, with the brown mostly on her back and head. She has a white blaze on her forehead. In this photo, she is wearing an easy-walk harness with the light blue strap across her chest, but I ended up not using it because I wasn't sure I'd put it on correctly.

Princess is a senior gal who is not opposed to walking, but slowly, please so she can take in all the scents. She loves to be scratched on her head, back, or butt. She is low to the ground for a 60+-lb. dog, but all the better for sniffing! Meet her at the Cheyenne Animal Shelter!

Bean has been at the Cheyenne Animal Shelter for just over a month. She has some medical conditions that need routine care. However, she is a Very Smart Dog! She knows Sit, Shake, and Sit Pretty, and she is treat-motivated!

Luna has been at the Cheyenne Animal Shelter for 3 weeks, which is long enough for her to develop Happy Tail, a condition in which her wagging tail keeps whacking the kennel walls and gets bloodied.

Fourteen years ago, HBO's 'The Newsroom' laid out the truth about voter ID in this segment. It’s striking how little the arguments — or the tactics — have changed. Still a solution in search of a problem. History doesn’t repeat itself — it gets rerun.

Luna had been at the Cheyenne Animal Shelter for about 3 weeks. I took her into the play yard, but she made it clear that she wanted to walk, so we walked. She will do better in a home where she can be the only pet and any children in the home are older and can respect her space.
Pictured is a tan-and-white pit bull with a big pit bull grin on her face. Her ears are relaxed and her tongue is out. All 4 feet are white, her chest and neck are white, and she has a white blaze on her face. She is grinning ear-to-ear.

Bailey came to the Cheyenne Animal Shelter as a stray about a week ago. Despite that, she is a gentle dog. She is not quite a senior at 6 years old.
The dog in the picture is listed as a labrador/German shepherd mix. She is mostly black with a little white around the muzzle, and her front feet and ankles are a tan color. Her ears look like flopped prick ears, sort of up, sort of down.

The Cheyenne Animal Shelter has Redwood listed as a mixed breed, but he looks shepherdy to me! At 9 months old, he is a gigantic puppy with the energy to match. He appreciated a good romp around the play yard. He needs to get his energy out before he can start to focus.
The dog pictured has a brindle coat and is listed as a mixed breed, but looks very much like a German shepherd. One ear is standing up while the other flops over. He has his tongue out and his tail straight out behind him. He is standing in front of wire fencing.

Sky has been at the Cheyenne Animal Shelter for over a month and has developed an intense dislike of her kennel. She didn't want to go back in! She is gentle and smart-she knows Sit, Down, and Shake-and likes having a toy in her mouth. Her new human will need to work on her separation anxiety.

Frank has been at the Cheyenne Animal Shelter for just under a month. He is extremely strong and tends to be orally fixated-he can pick apart a tennis ball with the best of them! However, he does not mind being petted while he is chewing, and hey, chewing is soothing for dogs!

Just spent a lovely 2 days helping the Wyoming Natural Diversity Database (WYNDD) with Colorado butterfly plant surveys on the air force base!
Scattered feathers, black at the tip, gray to white moving down toward the quill. We saw a red-tailed hawk in this area, so this bird was probably breakfast. (If anyone knows what these might have belonged to, let me know! Cheyenne, WY area.)Thin, branching red stem with white flowers at the ends of the branches. Leaves go halfway up the stem and are replaced by seeds that look like small watermelons. This is Colorado butterfly plant (Oenothera coloradensis). This is the Colorado butterfly plant lookalike, Oenothera curtiflora. The leaves on this plant go farther up the stem, almost to the top, and the flowers are smaller and pink instead of white. The stem does not turn red as it does on the Colorado butterfly plant, and if you feel the stem you find that it is fuzzy (hirsute). In this close-up of the butterfly plant, you can clearly see the red-and-green striped seeds along the stem. The caterpillar crawling up toward the flower is the larval stage of Schinia gaurae, the clouded crimson moth, which is closely associated with this plant. A member of the team held her hand behind the caterpillar so my phone lens would focus.

Some of my favorite flowers on field day. Identifications in Alt Text.
Liatris, blazing star, but not sure of the species. A short plant with a stout stem and alternate leaves. The flowers are purple and look like mops.Ground plantain (Plantago major). The leaves of this plant are readily identifiable because they are broad and heavily veined. It never grows very far off the ground. It produces a spike-like flower.Colorado butterfly plant (Oenothera coloradensis). This plant came off the threatened species list in 2018. The stem starts off green, but turns red later in the summer, as seen here. There is a white flower on the end of each branch, with the pistils protruding.Ute ladies' tresses (Spiranthes diluvialis). This plant is currently listed as threatened, but populations are doing well, so there's been talk of delisting. The stem stands straight, and the white flowers form a whorl up the last quarter of the stem (hence the genus name Spiranthes). The plant is only a few inches tall, so searchers have got to look down!

The Cheyenne Animal Shelter has Charolais listed as a 7-year-old female cocker spaniel. She wasn't interested in walking outside, but she loved exploring the back hallways! She adores having her ears rubbed, but be careful not to touch her neck; she's a bit sensitive there.

Colorado butterfly plant (Oenothera coloradensis)-biannual flowerig plant with a red stem. Leaves only go halfway up the stem. The flowers are white or pink. This is one I need to look up-an aster of some sort, I think. Pale purple flower with 10 separated petals. The stem is round and green with a couple of leaves on the side. The flower stands away from the stem on a short stalk at the top of the stem.Common milkweed (Asclepias syriaca)-Leaves are opposite on a stout stem leading up to globular clusters of star-shaped flowers.Bee balm (Monarda)-clustered flowers on thin stems. Leaves are small and opposite. The flowers are purple but have a fly-away look like short strands of hair in the wind.
