At tonight's ANC 5F meeting, DGS told us that, for PEPCO work in support of the ATC, they plan to close the section of the MBT between Randolph and R Street for excavation for *8 weeks*. DDOT is still figuring out the traffic control plan, but this is something we're tracking. #bikedc

The latest on trash collection from DPW. Collection is continuing, albeit slightly behind. If your trash hasn't been picked up, leave the can out. Please move any obstacles in alleys to allow the bobcat crews to remove ice and snow to make collection easier.
Frontside collection (as of Tuesday afternoon): DPW has completed Monday frontside collections. Tuesday frontside collections are underway and will continue tomorrow. Wednesday frontside collections will begin tomorrow.

Alley clearing (as of Tuesday afternoon): Bobcats have cleared pathways through all Monday and Tuesday collection alleys. Teams have started clearing pathways through Wednesday collection alleys.

Alley collections (as of Tuesday afternoon): DPW has nearly completed Monday alley collections, and those collections will continue on Wednesday. Tuesday alley collections will begin on Wednesday. Good news! Following another vehicle incursion on the trail, and additional news coverage, DDOT has confirmed to us that they are taking steps to protect the entrances to the MBT from drivers. Props to my colleague @joe5f6.bsky.social for keeping these comms going while I was heads down at work.
Good morning. Thanks for taking my call and for alerting us of the continued issue of unauthorized vehicles using the MBT. As I mentioned on the phone, we will take the following actions to limit access for unauthorized vehicles:

   1. After the snowstorm (late next week), we will position additional concrete planters and/or jersey barriers at R St to prevent access to the trail. This will block access to Ft Myers back gate which they are aware of and in agreement.

   2. We will proceed with new hardened bollards and/or a new gate at T St in coordination with Ft Myer and MPD. This will take a couple of months because it's non-standard infrastructure. Note: T St is MPD preferred emergency access point to the trail.

   3. Add additional signage near all access points stating no authorized motorized vehicles similar to the sign at R St.

Re:
 Michigan Avenue NE Shared-Use Path
Dear Chairpersons,
Pursuant to the “Administrative Procedure Amendment Act of 2000” D.C. LAW 13-249 (48 DCR
3491 April 20, 2001), the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is required to give a
written notice of our intent (NOI) to modify traffic and/or parking requirements. This letter is
being forwarded to you for the purpose of notification and solicitation of comments on our
intent to implement the following in your jurisdictions:
The installation of a 10-foot shared-use path along Michigan Avenue NE between Harewood
Dr and Monroe St NE.
Overview:
The Michigan Avenue Share-Use Path project provides both bicycle and pedestrian safety
improvements for users of this corridor. This proposed project closes a 0.2 mile gap in an
otherwise 2.1 mile section of connected and protected bicycle lanes and is an important part of
DDOT’s work to improve safety for all roadway users. It is a small but important portion of the
bike network that fills multiple gaps in the existing bike network by providing a safe
connections between the existing protected bike infrastructure to the east and west including
Irving St NE, Monroe St NE, and the Met Branch Trail as seen in the map below. The project will replace the existing sidewalk on the northern side of the corridor along Catholic
University with a 10-foot shared-use path extending from Harewood Rd / 4th St NE to Monroe
St NE. It will also improve the intersection at Monroe St and Michigan Ave NE to provide a safe
connection between this new path and the existing two-way protected bike lanes along
Monroe St NE. For the safety of bicyclists, the eastbound right-turn from Monroe Street onto
Michigan will no longer be allowed. This is necessary due to the limited visibility of the bike
lane while making that turn. Right turning vehicles will need to go to 7 th Street NE to make a
right turn. The existing and proposed cross sections are shown below:DDOT anticipates the following safety benefits with this project:
• An expanded biking / scooter route for people traveling along Michigan Avenue NE.
• Another connection to the Metropolitan Branch Trail.
• Improved comfort and safety for both pedestrians and bicyclists along Michigan Ave NE.
• Comfortable bicycle facilities for people traveling in and through the corridor.
• Improved comfort and safety due to the reduction of potential conflicts at Michigan Ave
and Monroe St NE.
• Reduction in motor vehicle trips due to faster and safer non-motorized travel options.
For more information about this project and to view the design plans in detail visit the project
