- using a poor quality mic also has its advantages! for example, for one of my roles, i used my headphone mic that cuts out a lot of the treble in its recording. it gives an authentic poor quality sound you can't quite achieve with higher quality

lloyd/sunny @artykeldeo.bsky.social · 20/11/2024

- a good mic does wonders for your stuff! i've been using the same USB mic since 2018 and that'd be the samson g-track pro! it's about a 100 or more iirc but definitely fetch it! it's worth the price - if you don't have the luxury, using a phone mic is still VERY much an option!

lloyd/sunny @artykeldeo.bsky.social · 20/11/2024

- facial expressions can also help you with range raising your eyebrows for higher ranges to help with shock can also help - moving your voice around like using your nasal and moving your voice back to the throat can help to portray different archetypes

110

lloyd/sunny @artykeldeo.bsky.social · 20/11/2024

- do NOT drink milk or coffee before recording. milk gums up your vocal cords. i know this from my choir days and it definitely affects your range as a VA! - warm up is also important. it can affect your takes like HELLLLLL.

lloyd/sunny @artykeldeo.bsky.social · 20/11/2024

- HYDRATION. this is VERY IMPORTANT. - in addition: TEETH BRUSHING. good dental hygiene does affect your recording! cus you get all these. wet mouth noises. u don't want that. sometimes just a quick little brush can really help
