Views on art and islands. I run a little bookstore, cafe, and gallery on Naoshima. Sometimes I give tours out here. www.artisland.jp

Legendary Japanese illustrator Kazuo Hozumi has passed away at the age of 94. Hozumi was the first Japanese menswear illustrator, most famous for his "Ivy Boy" cartoon character. But he had a huge range and was a very stylish guy himself. news.yahoo.co.jp/articles/ec0...

I feel that at times, it's hard for us to find each other in community. I made a Starter Pack for Ryūkyūan Academics-Artists. go.bsky.app/HAzFD2t

The Louise Bourgeois show at Mori Art Museum is just outstanding.

Hi Bluesky, how about some art island pictures? Enjoyed some great fall weather here recently.
Photo of Narcissus Garden by Yayoi Kusama on Naoshima. Hundreds of stainless steel spheres floating in a pond at Valley Gallery. They were installed here in 2022.Photo of the exterior of Teshima Art Museum, which opened in 2010. A droplet-shaped concrete building with an opening at the top emerging from a grassy hillside full of wild plants. The museum was designed by Ryue Nishizawa and features artwork by Rei Naito. A photo of Red Pumpkin, an artwork by Yayoi Kusama, taken at sunset at Miyanoura Port on Naoshima. A large red pumpkin sculpture painted with black spots with various sizes openings. Visitors to Naoshima can enter this popular artwork, which is made out of concrete. At night lights built into the floor illuminate the interior. A photo of “F Art House,” one of several art installations on the tiny island of Inujima, featuring artwork by Kohei Nawa. A renovated old Japanese house with exposed beams and large windows on two sides. In the middle of the space, a large white abstract sculpture is suspended.
