Attention- if you're rendering out cinematics in Unreal engine, *make sure* that auto exposure is turned off in your post processing volume, and your exposure is tuned manually. This will save you so much time debugging lighting issues. Signed, A lil guy thats been staring at renders for too long

In order for the slop game machine to function, you must let it spy on you constantly as you go about your day. Then, to get your perfectly personalized experience, simply feed it your hopes and dreams, and enjoy the statistical average of what your data profile predicts you will like!

Interestingly, Bulkhead's Glassdoor reviews paint a VERY CLEAR picture of what their crunch, overtime, and '4 day workweek' actually looked like in practice. How has this *repeated pattern* of abuse in reviews spanning years not made it into ANY of the news articles so far?
Screenshot of a Glassdoor review

Cons

- Intimidation and fear culture. I don't think I've ever quite seen such a toxic environment run on fear, people being made to push to get everything done or fear losing their jobs, or get pressured into agreeing with certain ideas because challenging the decisions of people above you puts you at risk of judgement, it's ridiculous.
-The 4 day work week is a tremendous lie. every now and again the whole company would be working 5 days to meet 'milestone goals' and even when it wasn't that occasion you often times just had to compensate because tasks were often overscoped thanks to extremely poor management, resulting in doing so much unpaid overtime I'd often be going home at 7PM and continuing to work from home till midnight.
- Blatant nepotism. If you're in a junior position, your opinion is irrelevant. What actually matters is how much the higher-ups and CEO Joe personally like you, not whether what you're saying is actually good.
- Low pay. I was barely earning enough to get by, I genuinely think working in retail for the same hours will net me more earnings, especially cause they have the decency to pay you for overtime there at the very least
- The lad culture is cringe and childish

Advice to Management

Start treating your staff like human beings and stop planning around the prospect of mandatory overtime.Screenshot of a glassdoor review:

- Clear signs of nepotism and favouritism within management.

- The four-day work week isn't great, with some staff putting in far more hours than they would on a regular five-day working week, and other disciplines not pulling their weight - not every employee was entitled to this benefit.

- Socials are filled with extremely unprofessional "lad-like" activities and humiliation.

- Bonuses and pay rises are very rare, with some staff earning well below industry standards.

- There’s a lot of talk about “responsibility” and “ownership”, but this is often just a way for management to shift the blame for their own poor decisions and lack of useful feedback onto the developers.

- A lot of senior level staff do not have the experience for the role - made clear by my last point where middle management do not own decisions out of fear from upper management.

- Poor amount of holidays - absolute minimum given, with the company requiring you to use almost a quarter of this on Christmas shutdown.

Advice to Management

- Stop telling whole teams that they are expendable, and they can just be replaced with outsource. Not great on staff morale...

- Start to respect your staff and other studios, stop fostering toxic attitudes towards the rest of our industry.

None of that actually addresses or walks back anything people were mad about. It does present some nicer sounding facts to sit alongside the ugly ones. So why are you reading this as genuine clarification instead of PR spin? It's weird, man.

Artemis ✨️🔧 @artemisronan.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Nick, you've been around enough studios then to know what PR looks like. Brammer got blowback for saying "we expect crunch" and "we screen out people who are anti-crunch". Then he answered with "here's one time crunch was optional, also we used to do 4 day workweeks! December off!"

Artemis ✨️🔧 @artemisronan.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
It's cool that you feel like you got a view into what the game dev process is through these behind the scenes videos. It probably feels pretty neat to get a glimpse into how a game gets made! Remember: those videos are PR approved statements. They are *not* an objective documentary film crew.

Artemis ✨️🔧 @artemisronan.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Reminiscing about four day workweeks, bragging about 'december off', staff shares- its more deflections! Mr. Brammer's statement never refutes the things he said that caused the controversy. It just muddies the water.

Artemis ✨️🔧 @artemisronan.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
No Nick, this is still about media literacy! In the interview, he consistently refers to crunch as a standard company practice. He says they have to coach people not to burn out during crunch. In his statement, he brings up one isolated event as if it was representative of *all their crunch*.

Artemis ✨️🔧 @artemisronan.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
It just feels weird to see your independent media outlet praising the 'Commendable Transparency' of the studio while they're voluntarily exposing themselves on their abusive working conditions.

Artemis ✨️🔧 @artemisronan.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Media literacy *is* important! Look at the exact words Brammer used in his statement. He never denies that crunch is expected. He gives a background on a singular instance where he chose to make the studio crunch. Your brain fills in the rest. That, at its most charitable, is a deflection.
"In June 2026 we were late for the Wardogs beta build. In this instance I apologised and said the only way I thought we could get the game into beta, was by working an extra 2 hours a day Monday through Thursday, for 4 weeks (16 working days total). We admitted to the staff that this was crunch; we clearly stated that we needed to crunch. It was optional; four people opted out, nothing happened to them and nothing will. But I can admit that maybe the social pressure within a very tight-knit team might make those individuals feel less than great.

"The reason it was 2 hours and not something else was build times. Extending slightly meant we could get x1 more build per day, review it and get QA's pass back on it, instead of waiting on the nightly build and picking it up the following morning.

"In this interview, I spoke a lot about trying to do things differently at Bulkhead. We don't always follow "how things should be done" because we haven't always had that experience, and the credit for giving us the freedom to experiment goes entirely to our staff.

"The best-known example is our four-day working week, which we ran for two years and, at the time, was one of the largest trials of its kind. We ultimately needed the fifth day of productivity, but we saw huge benefits and absolutely aspire to bring some form of it back in the future.

"Something mentioned far less is that 80 percent of Bulkhead's shares are owned by 50 percent of our staff. The founders chose to give up equity to make that happen, and it's one of the things I'm proudest of here."

Nick, I'm trying not to be pedantic, but the recent statements were not a 'Eurogamer Interview'. Brammer issued a statement to Eurogamer in response to the backlash to the original interview that upset folks. Which was on the Game Business website. www.thegamebusiness.com/p/the-shoote...

In the SINGULAR negative comment on your video, you literally quote their deflection tweet when someone points this out. Folks gotta eat, I get it. But puffing up their PR 'behind the scenes' video and then quoting their PR when people criticize the company in the comments is a really bad look.

Nick, come on. You know that's not why. You're being (rightfully) criticized for putting out a puff piece on a studio that openly admitted *in the interview cited by you* that they reject potential applicants that criticize crunch on social media.

Great news! It turns out you actually *can* have more hours in the day if you wake up a few hours before you were supposed to. Unfortunately, this also means you don't get as much sleep, which I'm told cuts down on your lifespan. So perhaps theres just a finite amount of 'awake' someone can have.

Beat Saber seems singularly brilliant because very, very few VR experiences actually make proper use of the hardware. 'Lets try and simulate real life as much as possible' and 'lets try to bring X genre/game into VR' are two VR design approaches that did a lot of harm to the overall perception.

If someone is trying to convince you not to vote, that's a psyop. Folks keep falling for the same op that resurfaces every couple of years - politician doesnt pass the purity test, therefore they 'don't get my vote'. You're being tricked into disenfranchising yourself. Vote, then complain. Loudly.
