eggplants are surprisingly prolific (maybe only surprising to me because we never grew them before last year)..! and they were the only plant in our (pesticide free) garden that gave me any pests to dote on (the most hideous mobile grubs i’ve ever seen)

a small herd of grubs (leptinotarsa sp.) on our sacrificial eggplant. they appear to be slimy (they weren’t) and were more purple hued (like a putrid corpse) than the picture captured

a nother view of the beetle babes where you can see their sweet faces

another view to show a slightly larger herd (one of the two we found). as far as i know they all made it to adulthood, though i never found their pupa

+ we had a few big storms that completely rearranged the stream i haunt so now my favorite bend has a very strong current into the swimming hole that’s like going down a water slide (at least while the water’s still high)! and the fresh rocks on the bank are so loose they’re almost soft to lay on

not to brag, but for dinner we had roast vegetables.. three varieties of eggplant, two types of tomato, red peppers and basil.. all from our garden! and it was delicious! and we tried the pickles my partner made from our cucumbers and they’re so goddamn good i can’t even tell you…

just got home from camping! it’s almost a full day’s work to get there and haul everything in and set up or tear down but nobody touched our space again and i saw SO many beautiful caterpillars and it stormed really hard last night but we stayed dry so anyway i think i legally own that land now

maybe someday soon i’ll stop fixating on bones and attach some of the cannons i’ve been keeping in our freezer for weeks now

katonya sculpture work in progress from tonight. her head is attached to her ribs and spine, which has had an armature frankensteined into it

i also made her a buffalo rib cage and was thinking maybe: cannons on shoulder blades resting on her horns, cannons on her neck or shoulders with her horns wrapped around them, OR those huge buffalo vertebrae sort of holding up a big one… gonna make some cannons and trial & error my way through

my lunchbreak setup before i started painting; a palette and extra watercolors in a little tin sit with my bag and water bottle on a rock just tall enough to be dry in a calm deep spot in the stream i frequent. a flower has been wedged between that rock and another to keep it still and in water for reference

the same setup as before, but at the end of my lunch break. i’m holding up a painting of the flower (common soapwort)
