When we shift covert attention from point A to point B; do we also attend everything in between, or does attention jump the gap? In a new preprint, our RIFT-EEG task suggests the latter (with S.V.d.Stigchel, @suryagayet.bsky.social, @schota.bsky.social, ...) www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6... (1/3)

Visual Attention doesn’t Travel, it Teleports
Attention forms a key, yet elusive component of visual processing. We shift attention constantly across the visual field to enhance processing of relevant locations or stimuli in service of goal-direc...

Exciting to share that our paper is out now! Using EEG + RIFT, we reveal the temporal dynamics of attentional competition between target and distractor in early visual processing. We show that distractor initially compete with the target, and then suppressed. www.nature.com/articles/s42...

Dynamic competition between bottom-up saliency and top-down goals in early visual cortex - Communications Biology
Using Rapid Invisible Frequency Tagging, we show that a salient distractor initially competes with target processing but is later actively suppressed, revealing the timeline of how bottom-up saliency ...

A collaborative guide to Rapid Invisible Frequency Tagging (RIFT): Methods, insights, and recommendations
Abstract. Rapid Invisible Frequency Tagging (RIFT) is a recent advance in frequency tagging that exploits novel, high-frequency displays to modulate luminance at imperceptibly high frequencies. RIFT g...

Planning on running a RIFT study? In a new manuscript, we put together the RIFT know-how accumulated over the years by multiple labs (@lindadrijvers.bsky.social, @schota.bsky.social, @eelkespaak.bsky.social, with Cecília Hustá and others). Preprint: osf.io/preprints/ps...

Spatial attention and working memory are popularly thought to be tightly coupled. Yet, distinct neural activity tracks attentional breadth and WM load. In a new paper @jocn.bsky.social, we show that pupil size independently tracks breadth and load. doi.org/10.1162/JOCN...

If you were as unfortunate as me, and missed King Kabir (@arora-borealis.bsky.social)'s talk at #ECVP2025 on the differences (in early visual processing) between internal and external attentional selection... no worries, you can find the paper here: share.google/TDIZCDK9puB6...

Excited to give a talk at #ECVP2025 (Tuesday morning, Attention II) on how spatially biased attention during VWM does not boost excitability the same way it does when attending the external world, using Rapid Invisible Frequency Tagging (RIFT). @attentionlab.bsky.social @ecvp.bsky.social
