Tumblr post by teashoesandhair: 'A popular fanfic author stopped updating her fic because she said that the stress of being constantly falsely accused of using AI was a witch hunt and it was destroying her mental health to the extent that she needed to take a break from writing, leading to multiple online discussions defending her and debates about AI accusations and how You Can't Really Tell So Leave Her Alone, and then someone realised that there were Claude coding artefacts in her fics and that it was a super pervasive problem in that particular fandom, proven definitively by looking at the source coding of each work on AO3, and she denied it for a bit but then ultimately admitted that oopsie, she had been using genAI all along, and then she deleted all of her fics off AO3 and people got mad because they were being denied access to their favourite fics, even though they now knew definitively that they were genAI slop, and then it turned out that she'd actually stopped updating the fic on AO3 in the first place because she'd been shopping it around to agents and editors as an original work with the serial numbers filed off, and she'd been in conversations with a publisher which ultimately got dropped because she'd lied to them about her AI use' oh cool, so we're in Hell, then

fyi i have this on my fic site. i totally get not wanting concrit on an individual level because i've felt this way for the past several years! but this thread (which i thought was clear, but maybe it's not) is about talking about concrit in absolutes, not about how it applies to you, as a writer

Answer: In terms of beliefs: yes. With regards to my fanfiction at this point in time and in terms of publicly posted comments by strangers, however: no. I make good use of my beta readers or else privately seek someone out for critical feedback, if I wish for it. Additionally, many of my fics are older and any criticism they warrant are usually not relevant, much less applicable, to my writing today. Of course, I support everyone’s freedom of taste, expression, and ability to give feedback. But in the same vein, don’t expect me to be grateful for criticism I haven’t asked for.

typed this out on tumblr but i'll share it here too: job positions to search for if you have at most a high school diploma and very minimal work experience. civil service jobs may be the most promising with the caveat that they'll require more communication/interaction

local government civil service jobs: a very broad category, so search up within your location. these are all jobs that basically will always need work/positions and have a large host of departments that you could probably get to choose/move between, including public safety, administration, and social services. hired by merit and largely based on your ability to pass the exam for the specific position. high school diploma, ~20/hour

data entry/data clerk: needed in a lot of different industries, so filter out for this position or connect with a temp agent to see if they have any contract openings. main requirement is ability to type and be proficient with a computer. high school diploma, ~20/hour

night shift at a boutique hotel: nabbed this one from the comments: "you don't do shit, 90% of all the guests checked in at 3-4pm. you mainly just man the lobby in case someone comes down but nobody ever does. minimal work." high school diploma, 15-20/hour

unarmed security guard: also nabbed this one from the comments. you mostly just sit on your ass all day and are legally bound to NOT do anything (for safety), you're just a witness and make people in a public building feel safe. needed for a lot of different industries as well. high school diploma and mostly clean public record, 15-20/hour.
