I don’t believe what politicians say. The other point of view might just be correct.

Oooh. Rachel from accounts is promising to deliver yet another budget for growth as per every budget I’ve ever listened to. You have to question whether this is something that is actually possible. But at least this will be a budget to support businesses to create jobs. Let’s see.

To be effective, protest must be noisy, obstructive, annoying. No longer is this allowed. Now the last attribute of effective dissent – persistence – is also to be banned. But the moment protest ceases to be effective is the moment democracy dies. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Here’s what you need to know about Starmer’s illiberal protest curbs: they would have killed the Labour party at birth | George Monbiot
The rights we enjoy in the UK, and the movement the PM purports to lead, were built on protest. Those rights are in dire peril, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

Calling all experts on Bluesky who can shed reliable light on the impacts of Brexit: I know you don’t really want to, but I think we must … “Gully Foyle” has re-upped a November 2024 X 🧵 as a book claiming 75 “Brexit benefits”. Let’s go through them together. Many hands make light work. /1.

No sudden rupture is now required for the far right to take power in this country. For what we're seeing is a steady normalisation of extremists by the Conservative and Labour Parties, BBC, Telegraph, Mail and others. A shift once considered unthinkable beings to look acceptable, even inevitable.🧵

Whoa! The shutdown’s ripple effect starting to hit. Burbank Airport in LA County has no air traffic controllers on duty due to sick calls, last-minute day-off requests, and staffing shortages. If you’re flying anywhere in the country, check for delays.

Had the government said "as a mark of respect, we'd like you to cancel football matches, concerts etc AND protests today", then fair enough. But to single out the protest they've long wanted to stop anyway as the one thing we should not do looks like disgraceful exploitation of a horrific attack.

I think when the police say… ‘the protest diverted officers from "protective security" for communities’ it’s the same as saying… “The police decided to focus on petty crime rather than continuing to provide protective security for communities.” Everything in life is about priorities.

I’ve been watching the price of gold and silver for years. I was an avid silver fan back in the days of Ted Butler. This last two years have been getting very interesting and recent price changes are indicative of fundamental economic issues. Fascinating.

I have come to the conclusion that the only way for the war in Gaza to end is for Israel to block all aid to Gaza and to continue to bomb it until everyone in Gaza is dead. Then the war will end. Following this, governments will declare any reference to genocide in Gaza to be a terrorist act.

Caught the tail end of the lunar eclipse tonight. Unfortunately I had to dodge the clouds to get this and by then it was almost over.

The banking trading algorithms have been in full force these last few days. Banks must have made a fortune.

I wonder how much of the latest market sell-off is attributed to ordinary investors selling their shares vs how much is bank trading system algorithms hard at work. One thing is certain and that is some investment banks will make billions of dollars out of the market turmoil.

The world is getting desperate. The economic model we live in is dependent on exponentially increasing consumption. Put simply, people must buy more and more stuff, every year. But the tariffs mean that stuff will be more expensive meaning that people will curb their buying and GDP will fall.

I’ve seen a lot of messages about how Trump tariffs are a tax on the US people. Put simply, ordinary US people will have to pay more to buy imported goods. We need to reduce tariffs everywhere, not just in the US. By getting rid of UK tariffs it would reduce what UK people pay for imported goods

What’s with the “Not for EU” label on a packet of Comte cheese? (Bought in Tesco) A couple of points… 1) it was produced in France 2) the same product (without the “Not for EU” label) is available in Tesco in Czechia. I thought “Not for EU” was a label for UK produced goods. 🤔

My usual train this morning was too packed to be able to get on it. I have just managed to squeeze onto the next one. Unfortunately the delay is only 10 minutes so I don’t even get to claim Delay Repay. Train fares clearly need to rise much more to pay for some extra carriages.

Most of what our civilization produces ends up being wasted by warfare. Conventional and financial warfare are wasting most of our resources, energy and computational power. Nothing about it benefits humanity nor our economy. But it drives GDP, and we call it economic "growth".

I would have thought the government would have supported the introduction of Trump’s trade tariffs. After all, raising taxes in general seems to be one of their top priorities.

After the nightmare train service to/from London on 3rd March, journeys haven’t been too bad. What I don’t understand is why the trains are so packed and yet allegedly still too many people working from home. They’re much busier than they were back in 2018/2019 prior to the pandemic.

Am I the only person who longs for trains to be delayed? I use train journeys to catch up socially. When the delay reaches an hour, the journey is free, and who doesn’t love a free ride. Thanks SouthWest Rail. Please can we have more signal failures. 🙂
