The support act last night was Ben McElroy, very interesting ambient folk experimentalist, using synth, viola, clarinet, and tape recordings of people talking on their allotment, alongside bird song. I really liked it, my wife was more 'WTF is this'! 😂 #livemusic open.spotify.com/album/5C7eUW...

Oh and Good Reads, .25 rating increments, about time! 😉😉

2/2 through the lives of a boy and his great grandfather. All children are sickly, and the elderly live way longer than normal, this story documents some of their daily lives, and how it became this way. Its quite emotional and sad by the end, but left me wanting more of this tale. #booksky

Just finished 'The last children of Tokyo' by Yoko Tawada, translation by Margaret Mitsutani. Interesting book, only 130 pages, wish it was longer, beautifully written account of how a future isolationist Japan is coping with contamination of land, food and people 1/2 #booksky #SF #SFinTranslation

Thanks to a post by @aureliennoyer.bsky.social last week I was aware of Paahto and the Bull, an Irish folk duo with John Francis Flynn in it, by coincidence we were in Manchester for a few days, and they happen to be playing tonight. Wonderful gig, exquisite playing.

I've just seen this Japanese version for sale, and trying very hard not to bid on it! 😂

Japanese edition of Jeff Noon book Vurt.

Was good, did want one of their pork pies but they'd run out 🙁

Pickled egg and hot sauce, and Pomona brewing Co 'Power Sappingly Mundane' a blackcurrant raspberry red current sour at North Westward Ho, Manchester.

Thank you!! Actually in Manchester at the moment, no feathers though.

Or, more accurately, antagonist

Everyone hates wasps, so great protagonists!

Loved Pavane, so high hopes for this.

😂 That would explain it, shame though, would definitely gone back, my mind went pretty blank when I went in and probably would have got more otherwise.

Found a 2nd hand bookshop in Manchester, large selection although quality was fair to good mostly, and prices little steep for that. But picked up this Keith Roberts 'The Furies' which was in reasonable condition. Was going to go back today but it only opens on weekends! 🤷 #booksky #SF

Dobropillia. Over 28 thousand people used to live here. They worked, loved, built homes, dreamed, raised children... Now it's all gone. It's just another Ukrainian town Russia erased.

I had both of those recently also, both very nice, really liked the Schlenkerla.

Maybe not as fresh but tasting damm good here too.

Can of Lost and Grounded brewery Festbier in a stein glass with large head.

That time I put milkshake IPA into the car instead of West Coast hazy pale, fucked the engine proper.

If you work in a brewery, fine, anywhere else, outstanding! 🍻

The original was perfect, why do a remake,?

An light-hearted story by Christopher Priest, written for a BBC Radio 4 series in 2009. A very playful take on time travel paradoxes (meeting your other self - 5 seconds into the future!), it nicely echoes the offbeat tales of David I. Masson, a huge influence on Priest in the 60s. #booksky

#nowreading The Last Children of Tokyo by Yolo Tawada, translated from Japanese by Margaret Mitsutani. This is actually a short book of only 138 pages, it's something I spotted on my daughter's shelf and I know nothing about it but looks interesting. #booksky #SF #SFinTranslation

finished @richardswanauthor.bsky.social The Trials of Empire, an excellent trilogy that goes from medieval style fantasy with great political plots, to full on battles to try and stop demons unleashing hell on earth, outstanding 👍👍 + a truly believable evolving female narrator. #booksky #fantasy

Excellent gig tonight in #cardiff tramshed Madra Salach, sold out, great atmosphere, sounding really good. Really recommend catching them live, they're gonna be big.

It was indeed. 👍👍😊

If it was a local/regular to me, I'd say something.

000

Sometimes I do, tonight I didn't, on way to a gig, barman looked fucked off before he served us also. 😂
