Last shift in Liverpool! Three years flew by: through global pandemic, relentless rota, new hospital site, and becoming a med reg in the process! Learnt plenty & met inspiring people. But now I'm ready for the next stage: MPH at Harvard Chan!

Great end to the @AoPgbi #APAM2023 with a 🧠 #Neurology symposium inc. a strong representation from @LivUni_IVES. First, Gash Mbizvo on risks for death in epilepsy and then @gkwood3 with first results of the multicentre @covidcns study. 👏👏

Brilliant talks, views and networking opportunities at @AoPgbi #APAM2023 at the Liverpool's Spine. One overarching message: We need to not only protect the #NHS but also the future of clinical academics in it. Interface of healthcare and research is where innovation happens.

Training update 2022 #Neurology comp ratio 1.65 is the LOWEST on the record 2022 Neurology fill rate is only 84% (100% for most specialties) Why make neurologists train in #GIM if there won't be enough of us to look after neurological conditions, let alone acute medical take?

No certainty at the moment about how #neurology cons jobs will look in the future. Options: contribution to acute take Vs stroke rota Vs acute neurology inreach. All depends on individual contracts. Post-CCT fellowships likely more common for more experience in sub-speciality.

Trainees with neurovascular interest can try to spend 1 year in stroke (TPD discretion) Trainees with neurophys interest can triple (?quadruple) TRAIN in neurophys but will not be allowed to ACCREDIT in it Academic trainees need to keep GIM/ neuro/stroke portfolio, as usual 🤷‍♀️

yet it's getting the diagnosis & accessing the right service that takes too long. This patient was admitted to hospital - with their initial neurology outpatient appointment still several weeks away. We need better access to #neurology, particularly outside the tertiary hubs. 2/2

Revealed diagnosis of #MND to someone today for the first time. It wasn't easy, but it would have been so much harder if not for the fantastic wealth of support and services I could signpost them to. We are incredibly lucky in the UK to have so many neurological charities, 1/2

10/ Last but not least - be kind AND expect that from others. There is no space in the #NHS for bullying. Join forces with friends and escalate as needed. We all want to work in an inclusive, friendly environment. Good luck and see you on the wards! 🙌

Arina Tamborska @arinatam.bsky.social · 02/08/2022
9/ Don't rush when it's busy - you not gonna solve the #NHS crisis by seeing one more patient that night. But what you do risk is making medical mistakes that you wouldn't make if you spent just a bit longer reviewing your prescription. It's unnecessary.

7/ Once out of work, do not miss out on those post-work drinks & socialising - it's the best part of being an #FY1.🍻You will build friendships and support networks that will come in handy when it's just been a tough day.

6/ ❗️ If leaving late becomes an ongoing theme - DO exception report. You're highlighting which hospital areas need more staffing, not being difficult. This will make everyone's lives better in the long term - both the permanent staff and the junior doctors rotating next.
