Exploratory analyses suggested that self-beliefs matter: higher self-rated attractiveness was associated with more attractive memory-based self-face reconstructions, and self-concept clarity was related to reconstruction accuracy.

Using behavior-based image reconstruction, we recovered visual information about participants’ self-faces from both perception and memory. Memory-based self-face reconstructions were least constrained by the target image.

Self-face judgments aligned with recognition-trained face models and retained pictorial information, suggesting that self-face representations are neither purely abstract identity codes nor simple image copies.

New paper in Cognition: How do we visually represent our own face? We combined similarity judgments, face-recognition ANNs, and image reconstruction to show that self-face representations are visually recoverable. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... #FacePerception #CognitiveScience

Excited to share my 1st Bluesky post: 2 studies reveal age biases in other-race face perception using GAN reconstruction and EEG. Congratulations to @moazshoura.bsky.social for this research - in collaboration with @dirkbwalther.bsky.social | www.eurekalert.org/news-release...

Researchers harness brain activity to look at how we perceive faces from other racial groups differently
Researchers at U of T Scarborough have used brain activity and AI to reveal why we have a tough time recognizing facial details of people from other races.
