Tomorrow, Discord will place everyone into an age group using account signals. They claim 90% of users won't have to confirm their age. They are also introducing new verification methods if you do need to verify that you are an adult, including Credit Cards and App Stores.

More than 90% of you won’t be asked to confirm your age. Since our last post about teen safety, we've had to launch age assurance solutions in more places, including Texas and Brazil. Laws requiring age assurance are expanding around the world. Rather than waiting to be told how to do it, we’re launching our own privacy-preserving approach: one that reflects your feedback.
You can check your age group status at User Settings > Account Status. We've estimated your age group automatically from account signals like how long your account has existed or the kinds of servers you're a part of. We don’t look at your messages, calls, or other content. We're launching this over the course of this week, so it may take a few days to reach your account.
If you're in the adult age group (18+), nothing changes. If you're in the teen age group (13-17), you can keep messaging friends, joining voice calls, and participating in non-age-restricted servers, but with additional safety protections that block age-restricted content, spaces, and settings. Otherwise, Discord works the same. More on this below.
We've added several new ways to confirm your age, including some that don't require an ID or selfie (including credit cards). If you're an adult but weren't automatically placed in the adult age group, you can confirm your age group at any time by going to User Settings > Account Status. More on the new options below.

I know y'all have seen this reposted a lot today, but an additional note for fellow streamers: Make sure you disable this on your bot accounts. I have a second twitch account just for streamerbot messages, and had to opt out on that on that, too.

Don't give them an inch. Opt out, tell everyone you know to opt out. There is so much amazing creativity and innovation in streaming, and it belongs to us, not to companies trying to steal our work and take all the credit for themselves.

I must say sorry for the wall of texts, or a wall of a thread, for that matter. But I kinda want to make it known to everyone that I am strongly anti-AI, anti-Google, and anti-Big Tech as a whole. I am angry and frustrated, and I'm sure a lot of other people feel that way. Arie out! *mic drops*

You may not even notice that the first result on Google is an AI-generated regurgitation of multiple sources from Gemini, most people are unlikely to, and I get that. But also, AI hallucinates, and some people will fall for it. I also feel that it's further polarising our already polarised planet.

arie @arieromby.bsky.social · 15/07/2026

AI isn't the only problem, how Big Tech companies like Google handle data privacy, too. That was my concern at first, then AI overshadowed said concern. I do not intend to pressure yous into switching to another search engine if it's something you're not comfy with, but I'd like to make yous aware.

arie @arieromby.bsky.social · 15/07/2026

At the same time, resistance towards AI grows, and this makes me happy, although I feel like sometimes the opposition is coming too late. Not to mention how bad for the planet AI data centres are. Put simply, you'll hear this from me: If you intend to act like Big Tech's bitch around me, fuck you!

arie @arieromby.bsky.social · 15/07/2026

I obviously get that Google is what most of the world uses, but also, the AI Overview appearing in most searches mean that at this point it is practically like using a chatbot, which is also something I don't condone and given all the studies around AI use, I still don't get why people still use it.

arie @arieromby.bsky.social · 15/07/2026

I know I never make posts, but also, I'd like people to know where I stand on stuff, especially with regards to Big Tech and AI. It is likely that I will block you if you strongly defend your use of Google Search, even with all of the AI Overview bullshit.

Meta has enabled a setting that allows anyone to use your public Instagram photos to create AI-generated images of you unless you opt out. To opt out, click your profile -> 3 bars in the top right -> scroll down to "Sharing and reuse" and toggle off for both Posts and for Reels.

Twitch seems to be turning on AI-generated in-stream summaries by default, as a slow rollout (you might not have it *yet*, likely just on larger channels first) Once Twitch activates it on your channel, you can disable it by going to Creator Dashboard > Settings > Stream > In-stream Summary

Discord is trying to add new AI features to their platform. They're asking people to fill out a survey on how they feel about AI and what "value" it would add to their platform. Please take a few minutes to fill it out and tell them to fuck off with AI. discord.sjc1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_...
