I think trying to get ops on a random channel on IRC only to kick everyone and give all your friends ops was the original digital social deception game.

Spent the weekend putting together furniture and now my back hurts. But I also made progress on my single player TradeWars 2002-like, which is now a genre! Also did a buttload of yard work. And TW2002-like!

Spending a little time prototyping a single player mostly text based roguelike game inspired by playing TradeWars 2002 on a BBS in the 90s this weekend. Funnnnnnnnnn!!!

90's teenager bedroom, grab a the bag of chips from the nightstand, walk over to the cobbled-together desktop PC, flip switches on the monitor, tower, & modem. Parents yapping over the TV in the living room. Your PC beeps and whirrs. You know what it's time for...

I took a vacation and now have some ideas for both a potential SP and MP approach to an updated TradeWars 2002-like game. I kinda like my SP version better. It would try to capture the BBS magic in a Stories Untold sort of way. 🤔

The White House is ordering agencies to place its new app on all employees’ government phones

The newly created, often overtly political app places the Trump administration into unprecedented and “dangerous” territory, IT experts say.

I want a roguelike deckbuilder where you're playing Trade Wars 2002 on a BBS. Is that too much to ask?

043

Ariel @arielgross.bsky.social · 23/05/2026

It would be fun to figure out a way to capture the magic of playing Trade Wars 2002 on a BBS but with a few modern upgrades. But not to the ansi art. That ansi art was a friggin vibe.

I feel like BBS Trade Wars was the predecessor to Eve. I remember playing it with friends and acquaintances on a BBS. There was strategy and betrayal that happened inside and outside the game. I totally screwed over a friend in the game and he didn’t talk to me the next day at school. Good times.

I really like the VO processing on the crawlers in Vampire Crawlers. It’s spot on.

Ariel @arielgross.bsky.social · 02/05/2026

Vampire Crawlers is great. I grew up playing Wizardry with my dad. He’d play and I’d draw the maps on graph paper. Love step-based FPS mazey stuff like this. Also strong VS vibes. Good shit. Buy it!

A nugget of advice for my #gameaudio pals. If you see something important that nobody wants to deal with, maybe because it sucks, try owning the ever loving crap out of that thing. Make it yours, own it, master it. YMMV but this has taken me far in my career. Good luck out there.

It’s Monday everyone, and you know what that means. It’s time to make something! Do it! Don’t let this day pass you by without making something. If you’re stumped, grab a pen and doodle on something for 30 secs and then take a pic of it and send it to a pal. Good doodlin’ day to you all. ❤️
