So yes, I forgot GRETA VAN FLEET existed, which is bad because they're a lot of fun in a Led Zep kinda way. So I'm going back to relisten to their previous album in advance of their new one dropping in a few weeks.

Got tickets to see a band next year I've been wanting to see live for several years but never had the opportunity - KING BUFFALO.

Our food waste bin has been attracting fruit flies so I've been trying to find a solution, and it led me to finding out that fruit flies are officially called DROSOPHILA MELANOGASTER, which to be fair is a pretty badass name.
Drosophila melanogaster
Species of fruit fly

Drosophila melanogaster is a species of fly (an insect of the order Diptera) in the family Drosophilidae. The species is often referred to as the fruit fly or lesser fruit fly, or less commonly the "vinegar fly", "pomace fly",[a][5] or "banana fly".[6] D. melanogaster is attracted to rotting fruit and fermenting beverages and is often found in orchards, kitchens, and pubs.

Scratch that. Turns out I've seen it. And previous me sounds like he agrees with you
My 3* review.

Just watched LOCKOUT. Basically exactly the film you'd expect with the poster.

Die Hard in a Space Prison.

Guy Pierce was good fun. Lots of John McClane style one-liners. Over the top baddies. Punching and shooting... You know the drill.

Good fun, not boring, generic action.

As I don't have a Switch 2, the Ocarina of Time remake is one I'll have to wait to play. But in the meantime I'm playing an old Gameboy Colour Zelda game that I don't think I've played before - ORACLE OF AGES. It's good fun so far.
A close-up shot of a metallic green retro handheld console running the Game Boy Color game The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages. The pixelated screen shows top-down gameplay of Link walking through an overworld forest area with green trees, bushes, and stone pathways. The top status bar displays equipped items, four full health hearts, and a rupee count of 111.A close-up view of the same metallic green handheld gaming console, held by a person's thumb resting near the face buttons. The screen shows a dark dialogue scene from The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages featuring character sprites above white pixel text that reads, "I am Nayru, Oracle of Ages."

And fuck me, what a swansong album and awesome tribute to a legend of the genre. It's right up there with Slaughter Of The Soul, and as that's one of the best metal albums of all time that is high praise. Tomorrow is the anniversary of his passing. I'll be blasting ATG all day. #FuckCancer

I missed AT THE GATES had a new album out this year, and I'm gutted to hear their vocalist Tomas Linberg died before it came out, but I'm blown away by the fact he laid down all the vocals in one day, without the music even written, before going into surgery for throat cancer that sadly took him.

I don't even understand how he can sleep like this.
A black-and-white tuxedo cat sleeping peacefully stretched out on its back on a fluffy, textured grey faux-fur blanket. The cat has white paws tucked up, a white chest marking, and its head resting sideways on the blanket. An orange cushion with a black geometric circle pattern sits behind the blanket on a blue sofa.

Latest GREEN LUNG seems on course to be my favourite album of the year. It's just so much fun. And I'm loving how they can so blatantly do Sabbath, Maiden or Deep Purple but still entirely sound like themselves.
Detailed black-and-purple linocut artwork by artist Richard Wells for Green Lung's album Necropolitan. The band name "GREEN LUNG" is rendered in bold purple lettering above the album title "NECROPOLITAN" in a stylized white gothic font. The central image depicts a cavernous, wide-mouthed beast filled with fanged teeth and chaotic demonic creatures surrounded by stone pillars, gargoyles, winged imps, and overgrown cemetery monuments. An ornate border frames the piece, inscribed with the names of London's Magnificent Seven cemeteries and the subtitle "Being the Secret History of the Seven Cemeteries."

People stupidly complain about London, but there aren't many cities you can have a beer after work and get views like this.
A wide rooftop terrace view looking toward St Paul's Cathedral on the right, backlit by a warm orange and yellow sunset horizon under dramatic grey clouds. To the left, modern skyscrapers in the London skyline stand against the dusk sky. The foreground shows metal safety railings, wooden decking, low benches, and a few people gathered on the rooftop observation area enjoying the cityscape.

Checking out BLOOD & RUST, because I was searching TUBI for any 2026 horror movies they might have acquired that aren't shit, and this might be one such film. It certainly meets the 2026 + Horror criteria. Let's see how it does with the 'not shit' part.
A movie poster for "Blood & Rust" (2026), directed by Jeremy Herbert. The poster features a dark, gritty red-and-black aesthetic with two central men armed with weapons in the foreground: an older bearded man holding a double-barreled shotgun and a younger Black man holding a customized rifle fitted with a torch or canister. Behind them, a man's stern face is framed between a set of giant, shadowy red eyes in the dark background, flanked by ghastly zombie-like figures. At the bottom, a lone silhouette walks into a foggy mist near a sign reading "Redpatch City Limits," with the title "BLOOD & RUST" in white serif lettering.

Accidently timed a walk up to the shop to get teabags with the time that all the kids get out of school and also go to the shop. Mildly amused to discover that Lynx body spray seems just as prevalent today as it was several decades ago when I was one of these same school kids.

I don't drink a lot of spirits at home, as I'm more of a wine guy. A bottle or whisky, rum or whatever will last me at least 8 months. But I'll tell you what, I could probably sink a bottle of this stuff in a weekend. it's amazing.

Haha, this can also play older vertical screen arcade games, but because the screen is regular 4:3 you have to turn it sideways to play them. But the D-Pad adjusts too, so it's quite playable this way. Although games needing the buttons will be interesting. I love this little thing.
A hand holds a small, metallic green handheld gaming console displaying the classic arcade game Ms. Pac-Man on its backlit color screen. The console features a black D-pad on the upper left, four face buttons arranged in a diamond layout on the bottom left, and small function buttons in the center. The game maze is brightly lit with yellow dots, ghosts, and the character near the bottom right.

Got a bunch of WIPER AND TRUE beers from my brother in law so trying one out. this one's a Milk Stout, which I've never had before. Apparently milk stout used to be recommended to nursing mothers, which is probably not the case today. Although at 5.6% it likely has enough calories to give me boobs.
A full pint glass of dark, black stout beer with a thick tan head sits on a geometric coaster next to its white aluminum can. Both the glass and the can feature the white and bold typography of "WIPER AND TRUE" and "BEAUTIFUL BEER." Can't wait for the movie version of William McGonagall's Tay Bridge Disaster. Tommy Wiseau's next film project.
## THE TAY BRIDGE DISASTER
Beautiful Railway Bridge of the Silv'ry Tay!
Alas! I am very sorry to say
That ninety lives have been taken away
On the last Sabbath day of 1879,
Which will be remember'd for a very long time.
'Twas about seven o'clock at night,
And the wind it blew with all its might,
And the rain came pouring down,
And the dark clouds seem'd to frown,
And the Demon of the air seem'd to say—
“I'll blow down the Bridge of Tay.”
When the train left Edinburgh
The passengers' hearts were light and felt no sorrow,
But Boreas blew a terrific gale,
Which made their hearts for to quail,
And many of the passengers with fear did say—
“I hope God will send us safe across the Bridge of Tay.”
But when the train came near to Wormit Bay,
Boreas he did loud and angry bray,
And shook the central girders of the Bridge of Tay
On the last Sabbath day of 1879,
Which will be remember'd for a very long time.
So the train sped on with all its might,
And Bonnie Dundee soon hove in sight,
And the passengers' hearts felt light,
Thinking they would enjoy themselves on the New Year,
With their friends at home they lov'd most dear,
And wish them all a happy New Year.
So the train mov'd slowly along the Bridge of Tay,
Until it was about midway,
Then the central girders with a crash gave way,
And down went the train and passengers into the Tay!
The Storm Fiend did loudly bray,
Because ninety lives had been taken away,
On the last Sabbath day of 1879,
Which will be remember'd for a very long time.

Due to some incredibly poor foresight on my part, I have gone from this view yesterday to this one this morning, having only got home to my bed at 2am. It's even an old empty mug as I've not had time to go get milk yet before getting back to work. This is awful. How do I do this to myself?

The scene looks across the stone deck to a large outdoor swimming pool surrounded by tall palm trees, thatched sun umbrellas, and multi-story white resort buildings in the background under a cloudless blue sky.A desk setup in front of a window in a bright room. An open laptop sits in the center with a larger external monitor positioned directly behind it; both screens show blurred web pages or documents.
