The sheer arrogant effrontery, to get up on their hind legs and spew about things they just know nothing about. Politics today: the art of bullshitting for (all) a hell of a lot more than you’re worth with absolute confidence. … until a decent journo decides to go off script.

The insidious creep of generative AI into our profession is heartbreaking. We've got to start investing in primary sources so at it isnt scraping slop into a death spiral, value human intelligence & creativity, & challenge Gen AI when we see it and it doesnt declare itself transparently to be so.

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 118: Most of your writing happens away from your desk, when you’re driving, walking, going about your daily business. To activate that mode, add ONE sentence to your WIP as you get up every morning, and keep the mental plates spinning for the rest of the day..

I wonder how much the drop in letter carrying is due to posties being told to ditch it if it can’t be delivered. I posted Important Papers on Aug 25 at an actual PO. I got a confirmation of delivery text from the recipient on Sep 18. SCANDALOUS. The name should go: the Royal Mail no longer exists. 🔥

Everyday objects are the real archaeological treasures! Birch bark is perfect for making containers and wrapping. This 7,500-year-old wrapping was X-rayed, but unfortunately, it didn't show anything. It probably held something perishable. From the Mesolithic settlement of Motala/Sweden. 🧵1/2 📷me
