Yeah, exactly. I couldn't care less about losing everything as a Rook. I would rather be able to opt out of safe pockets somehow, to be able to keep my blue, compromised backpack

I think it would be better if you could opt out of this somehow and just take a backpack. I don't care about losing everything as a Rook, I do care about having enough backpack space to pick up some decent stuff as a Rook.

give me the transformers comic and I will tell the stories that need to be told
5 panel comic

P1: Not Optimus Prime stands striking a stoic pose inside what looks to be a spaceship interior.

A little bug of a human stands by his feet, and says "wow, you're amazing, Optimain Protag! I wish I could be just like you!"

P2: Optemu Prime lays his open left hand down on the ground, palm up, and booms"STEP INTO MY HAND, BILLY"

Billy, a little boy, is starstruck as he steps on to the palm.

"WOWWW!"

P3: Gently clasping Billy in both hands, Amazon Prime raises Billy up to his gargantuan head, to observe the human child with his implacable yellow eyes.

P4: With a sickening "KRK-KRK-KRACK-POP," Ombusprem contorts poor Billy in ways no human should be contorted.

Tears form in the all too soft and pliable human's eyes, mouth gaping in a silent scream.

P5: We pan back, as Leader-1 proudly holds up the contorted Billy --arms stretched out-- and pretends to fly him around.

"YOU ARE AN AIRPLANE NOW, BILLY"

Billy, voice barely a whisper, says "ow my spine"

The heroic robot replies "WHAT'S A SPINE"

Awesome book! I learned how to write a parser from this book. My degree wasn't the best, so it didn't cover the topic at all.

100%. I'm creating an FPS in Unreal as a hobby project. If I were interested in just having the end product, I could have it finished tomorrow just by piecing together packs from the marketplace. That's boring. I want fine control over how everything gets implemented

I maintain it's impossible to get all the Chaos Emeralds in the original if you have Tails enabled and no second player controlling him.

I think I died four or five times, after getting it down to a quarter health at best. Who can be fucked doing that all over again from the start. I have zero patience in my old age

Haha I had the same reaction last night. "Yep, I'm done with this game". Didn't refund it obviously, but maybe I'll try again in a few years.

I was bored and noticed my wife had picked up a new book, using a receipt as a bookmark. I decided to replace the receipt with my own additions to the story that are much better if you ask me, as someone whose only knowledge of the book is the cover and the page that the receipt was bookmarking
Picture of the book The Housemaid, by Freida McFadden. No fucking way am I typing all that again, it's bad enough that I typed it once to be honest. Trust me it's better that you don't read it. Yeah... The second page isn't any better than the first, trust me.

This is the worst thing about AI, even the most utopian version of it where no one ever has to work, will result in massive deskilling of the population. I don't want a future where no one learns maths and science because an AI can do it for them. That's a terrible outcome
100
Bryan Robertson @ardbegatron.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
At least that was the last thing the AI said before I forgot how to type. I can just look that up though probably

Giving yourself dementia is the cool and rad new thing to do and everyone should do it. I don't even remember my name, where I'm from, or my dogs name because I can just like, ask AI and stuff.

Some of the hackiest code I ever wrote, but I basically ran through the hand to hand attacks we would use and figured out good raycast offsets and directions for each one. Then just hard coded them and triggered them based on the anim event.
040
Bryan Robertson @ardbegatron.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
I refused the deprecated anim events for "hood up", "hood down" and some other things to trigger directional blood splatter in the lethal hand to hand attacks for the E3 demo. (Creating new events was not an option at that point in time so I had to do what I had to do to make it work)

If you make a bad decision, you at least gain the experience of learning why that decision was bad. If you stall, then you make no progress and don't learn that lesson. The more mistakes you make, the better you get at spotting mistakes long before they happen.

My life is infinitely better than 20 year old me could have imagined. Hell, it's better than 29, or 32 year old me could have imagined. I've definitely been very lucky over the past 10 years.

I regret never playing the sequel. The original had a bad rep from people who were disappointed by the hype surrounding the game, but as a person who never paid any attention to that the game was everything I wanted it to be.

They're jeans that allowed Canadian government officials to time travel back to the 60's on top secret missions. Of course this was all made obsolete by Project Time Toque

Oh yeah that reminds me I have to carve out an exception for Amon Amarth too because songs about chibbing some guy in the face on an 11th century battlefield are also pretty rad.

"This song is about the new saving account products available at your local RBC!" *Sounds of acoustic guitar, clapping hands, whistling in a major key, ukelele and a tambourine*

But yeah when I hear an artist say stuff like "my music like, doesn't have opinions and stuff" I just think the people who listen to this are the most beige wallpaper people imaginable. People who think the songs that call centres play when they put you on hold are fucking bangers.

Bryan Robertson @ardbegatron.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
It's just so hard to find the moments in life where it's socially acceptable to call people "fucking posers" based on their music taste, you know
100
Bryan Robertson @ardbegatron.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
The thrash metal fan in me has been trying really hard not to post "apolitical music is for fucking posers, with the exception of the odd song about beer, those are OK".

One of those little rules of thumb like : If producer says we need to crunch, we absolutely _cannot_ miss this deadline and the deadline isn't imminent gold master, odds are 80/20 that the immovable deadline will actually move and you'll be expected to continue crunching anyway.
020
Bryan Robertson @ardbegatron.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
When a CEO says things like "we don't hire people who speak out against crunch on social media", I can pretty much guarantee you're in frequent deathmarch territory, not "let's make this E3 demo awesome" territory
220
Bryan Robertson @ardbegatron.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
Well I think that goes back to what you said before about expressing nuanced points in a medium where you get 255 characters to make your point.
000
Bryan Robertson @ardbegatron.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
I think when people talk about crunch, they're generally not talking about working overtime for a couple of weeks in the run up to E3, or some other important milestone. They're talking about the frequent month or even year long death marches that have been common in some parts of the industry
100
Bryan Robertson @ardbegatron.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
But that's what I'm saying, if you're doing it for more than a couple of weeks, there's mountains of evidence that show that it's less effective than just working normal hours. So it's not really helping with the deadline problem.
120
Bryan Robertson @ardbegatron.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
I don't think I'm being unreasonable or extremist here. It's common to frame crunch as a necessary evil, but that ignores the mountains of research that show once it goes beyond a few weeks, it's actually less effective than working normal hours.
130
Bryan Robertson @ardbegatron.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
There's over a century's worth of research showing that it very quickly becomes less effective than just working 9-5. So it's not really necessary by any reasonable definition of the word.
140
Bryan Robertson @ardbegatron.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
It doesn't even benefit the studio. There's over a century worth of research showing that after a few weeks or so, excessive hours are _less_ effective than just working 9-5

I think Claude is broken, whenever I @ Claude on Slack it responds like this "Tabarnak de câlice de sainte-viarge! Pour la dixième maudite fois, c'est Claude de l'équipe du engine de Montréal, pas ton ostie d'intelligence artificielle de marde, sacrament de crosseur d'épais!"
