I'm just waiting for all the AI slop we made to get encrypted and locked away in a research lab only for DrillMan.EXE to break into it decades later

The monkey's paw curled. It turns out composite rendering wasn't even working at all upstream, so when I fixed that, my wgpu renderer broke in 10 different ways. Anyway, enjoy my wizard cape and Santa hat taking over the screen

I don't know about Crunchyroll specifically, but a lot of professional J2E translators work on contract and much of their work got replaced with "Machine Translation Post-Editing" (MTPE) jobs 10 years before the current AI slop crisis. Nobody's being paid a living wage in that industry.

Publishing (in any medium) is dominated by idiot suits that work off spreadsheets, and anything that does not boil down to a dollar value on a spreadsheet is something that they expect you - either as a customer, an artist, or an employee - to learn to live with.

I'm aware - your article specifically got me to cancel my Crunchyroll sub last year! And yes, it's not literally "hey we'll pay you to drop .ASS" in the same way a tip is not a bribe. It's more "if Netflix only wants garbage, and CR makes more money selling them garbage, then..."

Arcturus🌟Emrys yr Ymholgar 🧙🏻‍♂️🔮 @arcturusemrys.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

Netflix and Amazon weren't just "ineffective competition," they were actively sabotaging Crunchyroll's subtitling quality by paying them to make worse subtitles. It feels like we would have been better off if they'd just stayed out of foreign-language content and let Crunchyroll have their monopoly.
