This illustration marks the death of Queen Victoria & the ascension of King Edward VII in 1901 on the City of Halifax’s aldermanic scroll. An extraordinary 6.5 metres, it contains signed oaths of office of every Halifax alderman from the city’s incorporation in 1841 through to amalgamation in 1996.

Congratulations to Emma Quan, winner of the 2026 Dodds Prize for her paper “Archiving the Infant Body: Inscription, Affect and Maternal Documentation in a 1906 Baby Record Book.” Emma’s paper will be published in the Spring 2027 issue of Archivaria.
