Do you know Front Page Challenge? Running from 1957 to 1995, it was Canada's longest running non-news program and featured panel games about current events and history. These photos from the University Relations fonds show a 1985 episode that was taped on campus in the Duckworth Centre.

The #ACAHashtagParty for this month is #ArchivesProtest! This photo, from the University Relations fonds, shows a student protest at Wesley Hall at the University of Winnipeg. The 1980's saw huge discussions about Education in Manitoba, with many students organizing to prevent funding reductions.

An important part of preserving records is preventing the establishment of pests who eat or otherwise damage records. This includes moths, like this one that was recently caught in the Archives and released. The larvae of clothes moths in particular love to munch on textiles.

This image, from the Joseph Francis Tennant Collection in the WCPI, is a tintype. Unlike a modern photo, its made by adding a positive onto a thin metal sheet which has a dark enamel coating. It was invented by Adolphe Alexandre Martin in 1853 and was at its most popular between 1860's-1870's.

Sometimes an archival item preserves historical information beyond its immediate purpose. For the Vox Weslyana, you can see student writings and campus events as well as advertising trends and pop-culture of yesteryear. This includes some unusual ads by Neilson's Chocolate published in 1937.

Check out this document from the Marketing and Communications fonds! This plan was produced by Corbett Cibinet Architects in 2001 for UW reviewing the campus and its buildings. It goes in depth, providing detailed building recommendations, some of are which very different to how the campus grew.

Today campus is closed for Terry Fox Day. The holiday, first celebrated in Manitoba on 2015, honours Fox and his 1980 Marathon of Hope across Canada. While Fox passed away in 1981 from cancer before he could complete the route, he inspired millions of Canadians to support cancer research.

One of the major challenges in Archives is preserving different formats. A piece of audio might be recorded on to reel, cassette, vinyl, CD, or even as digital mp3 file. Each have different safe storage conditions and use different players to work.

Today is the first day of Summer Session! You can visit the Archives all season to see records in the collection, like this photo from the Western Canadian Pictorial Index. The image shows the Wesley College building in 1934, prior to the merger with Manitoba College into United College in 1938.

25 years ago today, the UW Archives was officially formed. Prior to 1984, the University did not have an official repository. It was the Library's periodicals supervisor, Shirley Payment, who started a project to consolidate records.

National Indigenous Peoples Day is today on the summer solstice. The solstice holds deep spiritual and cultural significance for many Indigenous Peoples, marking a time of renewal and celebration.

Did you know that June 9th is International Archives Day? In 2007 at the annual general meeting of the International Council on Archives (ICA), June 9th was selected for the holiday, the same date that the ICA was created in 1948.

The UW Archives has a new exhibit titled, "A Source of Spiritual Strength: 40 Years of the Niciwâkan Native Gay Society", highlighting the group's history of activism locally and internationally. The exhibit will be available in our reading room (Centennial Hall Library, 5th floor) until August 31.
