There is definitely a different vibe working in a theatre. Half of the place is on radio comms, everyone else lives by the tannoy announcements. Even working in the Theatre Museum (with lot of actors on the team) we never quite had that same rhythm.

I can’t match up to my rat catching (and rat breeding) ancestor, so that’s out. I caught the excellent Boss Hogg reference but I have a suspicion he might have been a tad racist, so that’s out. George III was admirable as monarchs go, but did go a little off the rails.

We’re thrilled to see Stephen Dwoskin make the BFI “10 great British films of 1976” for his film “Central Bazaar”. The University of Reading Special Collections holds Dwoskin’s archive, a wealth of material covering all aspects of his film-making work, his personal life, and the period he lived in.
The image of Dwoskin above is linked to an article possibly titled “Disabled” for the magazine ‘Design and Environment’. The photographs taken depict Dwoskin using crutches, as he did throughout most of his adult life. The filmmaker often focussed on the theme of disability, alongside an ongoing look at the experience of pain and pleasure.

At 78cm tall, this 1770 edition of Giovanni Piranesi’s ‘Colonna di Trajano e di Antonio Pio’ is one of the largest books in our collection. It is full of beautiful engravings, as well as a fold out illustration of Trajan’s column that’s over 2m long! [Overstone L 1H/01]

A key point here about libraries. One of the investment cases for libraries/archives/museums is that forms of knowledge are changing - the special collections we should be collecting now for humanities & social science research are digital: web/social media/personal digital collns, highly ephemeral.
