In Herbert Badham's 'The Night Bus,' (1943) the interior lights highlight the different figures and their gestures, all still, fixed in the moment. A woman reads a magazine, a man smokes, the conductor chats to a passenger.

The Matsuura railway line linking Imari and Arita in Kyushu, Japan, is a single-car line that connects the two towns. On the Arita station platform are displays of locally-made modern decorative porcelain tiles showing flower designs first made over 400 years ago. My kind of train station.
A rather large display in the center of the train platform. Well done.A lovely display of Kakiemon decoration on white tiles. A small train! A 24-minute ride between two important towns for the Japanese porcelain trade from the 1600s through 1800s.

Variegated grey clouds sail above the flowerless mead, & the wind kisses colder than of late. Every other step through dew-weighted grass causes craneflies to take flight & scatter low. From a backwater willow, a light burst of chiffchaff song evokes spring, while autumn romances the heart.

Monet’s heavy use of white was groundbreaking—but dangerous. His “snowy peaks” were painted with lead, a toxic metal. Today, conservationists handle Monet’s works with caution.

#photography #photograph #photo Before I moved to San Diego, I roamed across my home state of #Georgia for five years with a camera and took pictures. Here is image number 461 from the series. 📍 Thank You Jesus - Tyrone, Georgia
A weathered brown house features a covered concrete front porch beneath an asphalt-shingle roof. On the porch, a worn plaid upholstered loveseat sits beside a window, next to a small white plastic stool and a yellow-and-white sign reading "thank you JESUS". To the left, a screen door displaying a miniature American flag opens onto the porch above a grassy, unkempt yard.

This beautiful amethyst-tinted serving bottle is made from a type of glass developed during the 1670s that contained a high percentage of lead. This so-called ‘lead-glass’ or ‘crystal’ was much heavier, less fragile and more brilliant than that produced previously in either England or Europe.

This ancient Greek figure from the 2,500 year-old Douris Cup looks uncannily like someone working on a laptop! 😲 💻 He’s actually writing with a stylus on a hinged wax writing tablet! The technology has changed, the posture has not! 😂 Altes Museum, Berlin 📷 by me
My photo shows detail from an ancient Greek red-figure kylix (drinking cup) of a young man shown in profile seated on a stool facing right. He wears a knee length cloak (himation) over his left shoulder, which is shown in folds around his waist and upper legs. His right shoulder, chest, and arms are bare. His dark hair is short, and he wears a band around his head. He is looking down at an open rectangular wax writing tablet which he is supporting in his left hand above his lap. In his right hand he holds a metal stylus pen poised over the writing tablet. The wooden writing tablet is hinged like a book and, from this angle, resembles a modern laptop. The figure is part of a scene depicting school lessons in ancient Athens, painted by Douris around 480 BC. On display at the Altes Museum in Berlin.

On the wet pavement, a man in a trench coat and hat stands, while another figure holding an umbrella passes in the background.
