Ok it’s not a standing stone in the Prehistoric sense, in fact it is currently not even standing, but this old boundary stone was a great find yesterday and so is today’s #standingstonesunday

After spending last week at the Record Office pursuing PhD research, I found reference in an C18th document to a parish boundary stone that I reckoned still had a good chance of being in situ. Cue a reconnaissance mission with a pleasing conclusion 🙌

The complicated politics of coastal erosion. Farlington Marshes was reclaimed from the sea in 1771. Now the sea wishes to claim it back. The Solent coastline has been constantly changing for thousands of years. When to intervene & when to allow nature to take its course is not a simple one.

We've been on the Northern Line. The idea that it's 2000 years old seems completely reasonable.
A screen snip. At the top is a sentence pointing out that the Northern Line tube line closely follows the route of the Roman Road, Stane Street. Beneath are two maps, on the left Stane street is shown with settlements including Morden, Tooting, Clapham and Kennington marked. On the right is another map with the modern northern line shown. All of the settlements on the stane street map are duplicated on the tube map.

Peak Lane, Fareham, Hampshire. The road was straightened in the late 60s / early 70s to remove a dog’s leg & give more direct access to Stubbington village. The original route is still visible in 3 sections, intersected by the new route of Peak Lane & the new Daedalus Way. #ghostroads #lostroads
