Lois Lowry has a new novel debuting in September! I enjoyed the pacing of the story, its connection to current events, and its emphasis on how stories and imagination build connections. I will definitely be adding a copy to my classroom! Thanks to NetGalley for the preview.

Over the last 20 years, we have gotten a comp day on the Friday of conference for two evenings of conferences. This year, our comp day was today…3 weeks later. I’m enjoying a 4 day weekend, but I would have preferred that Friday off. Conference week was exhausting!

Today, I met my fear of ladders head on and washed the upper windows. It wasn’t terrible, and they look so much better!

I started high school in 1990 and graduated from college in 1998. I believe the nineties had the best music across the board of any decade. I've been on an R&B kick lately and Janet, Maxwell, SWV, Toni, and D'Angelo all hold up.

At this time, I want most people to find pockets of joy where they can. It's the only way we're going to survive. Some, I only want to find legos under bare feet, their ice cream to fall on the sidewalk when they are ready to take their first lick, and their popcorn to never be buttery or salty.

I just saw a kindergarten mom in tears on TikTok because her child’s classroom wasn’t filled with rugs and lamps and bins full of fun things... It’s important to understand what a state-funded classroom looks like versus a teacher-funded classroom. Your beef is with the state, not the teacher.
