These are most definitely not in any order, because I refuse to pit 9 elites against one another. I love them all equally and for different reasons, but they instilled a life long love of gaming in me. Honorable mention to Final Fantasy 7, but these got the most playtime so they got on the chart.

Cover art for the following video games: Tales of Symphonia, Pokemon Blue Version, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Knuckles, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Starfox 64, Kingdom Hearts, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, Megaman Zero 2, Phantasy Stare Online.

Juha is one of my favorites, too! The dude's hooks were a huge influence on me. I'm SO excited that Charon is active again, since that means new music. The idea of a US tour is probably a dream, but maybe they'll at least play like... ProgPower or something if we're lucky.

Damn, that's awful. I hope you feel better Allie and they're able to figure it out and get you on the mend soon.

Spending my evening writing synth and keyboard lines for new Threnodist material. This is some deeply sad stuff, but we live in some deeply sad times. I love all y'all. We only have each other.

I think you should go. Both because the show is going to rule, but also because I need to vicariously live through you. Someone needs to see Mother of Graves absolutely kick ass live - it should be you! These dudes rule so hard. Seriously, go. <3

weareruen.bandcamp.com/album/the-tr... Shawn from Archaic Earth turned me on to this band and record a few days ago and it's been on constant repeat for me ever since. Folk-punk with traces of doom, post-metal, and screamo. The melodies and vocals are so good, and the lyrics are fantastic.

If you had to pick a favorite Amorphis album (or top 3 if just one is too hard,) which would it be?

Re-watching through Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and this show never fails to deliver an emotional gut punch from time to time that has both me and my partner welling up in tears, no matter how many times we've seen it. Great writing and acting. Sisko and Odo are all-time favorites for me.

Inject this directly into my veins. This RIFFS. The melodies are huge, the vocals are great. The piano and synth work are fantastic and create lovely textures. The guitar tone is meaty but clear, and the production is excellent. It's everything I'd want in a new melodic death metal record.

What video game changed your life? Tales of Symphonia is also my answer. I had played other J/RPGs but something about this was different. It hooked me emotionally in the way some of the other games I had played til that point hadn't. ToS is always gonna be my GOAT. SO many playthroughs...

This is just the first wave, too. What an outrageous lineup announcement. Super exciting, though! If Godspeed is round one then I am going to hold out hope that maybe... just maybe... they'll have the pull to get Ulver to the USA for the fest.

If you have never seen Amorphis live - don't miss that upcoming tour. They are lifechangingly good live. I have had fortune to see them touring for both Red Cloud as well as QoT. The Red Cloud tour was how I met one of my closest friends (the ex-bassist for Threnodist) and cherish that gig deeply.

I'm stoked. I haven't seen Insomnium in like 10 years, and we're going on 8 for Amorphis - so it's high time. The opening band on that tour, Hinayana, are also a sleeper gem that more people should know about.

Got Mastodon/Deafheaven/Alcest in October, Emma Ruth Rundle in November, and Insomnium/Amorphis on my birthday in December. It's a nice 1-2-3 to close the year out 😊

Bruce Springsteen and Dolly Parton are without a doubt the two most important ones on this list. Those are rock solid albums. If it weren't for my mom and her deep love of both of those artists and exposing me to them at a young age, I'm not sure my music taste would have developed the same way.

Name 5 albums that helped shape you: These were some thinkers. I feel confident in these, though. • Opeth - Ghost Reveries • Katatonia - Tonight's Decision • Dolly Parton - New Harvest... First Gathering • Killswitch Engage - The End of Heartache • Bruce Springsteen - Darkness on the Edge of Town

I want to add that Dolly wrote this song less than a decade after eugenicist Harry M. Caudill's Night Comes to the Cumberlands was published, pathologizing Appalachia during the country's "War on poverty." That "Despite your contempt, the things I love are worth loving" part runs DEEP.

I grew up in Sevier County, too, and reading the news made me feel like I got shot in the chest. I remember a lot of similar conversations- and nobody /ever/ had a bad word to say about her. She was always spoken of in such loving, kind terms the same way she spoke of everybody else. This sucks.😭

Dolly very intentionally fostered kindness, natural curiosity, and care for the well being of others. She pushed for deliberately being the version of yourself you most wanted to be. And never shaming another for whatever their best self looked like. That is the legacy we have to honor.

The soundtrack for the original Phantasy Star Online on Dreamcast/Gamecube has had more of an influence on me compositionally than I realized. Kobeyashi and Kumetami knocked it out of the fucking park with that game and the lonely, desperate vibe in a lot of its overworld/combat music. It's eerie.

NatO is also my favorite. Every single track is a certified banger. To go through all those killer songs and then for those guys to have the absolute gumption to drop a masterwork like "And Then There Was Silence" at the very end... ah. 👌 c'est magnifique

I also disagree on it being unintentional promotion. People that are willing/looking to buy NS stuff will likely find it and buy it anyway, since the NS scene is quite well connected. The list serves as a great way for other people to -not- unintentionally give money to those types though.

010

Kalmia @appthren.bsky.social · 07/08/2026

@godfreyyouth.bsky.social again, is just one person and can't be expected to get every minor detail correct. The list is mostly accurate and verifiable if you look stuff up. I think community should help each other with stuff like this and I guess we're just going to disagree on this point. 🤷

110

Kalmia @appthren.bsky.social · 07/08/2026

If things are getting missed, I think we have a shared responsibility to try and improve things and make the information more accurate. Saying "that list sucks" and not trying to help it -not- suck while also having information that could do that doesn't make for a better or safer scene.

010

Kalmia @appthren.bsky.social · 07/08/2026

Tbf, I think stating they're on a sus label and play shows with a nazi band is plenty of information to say "hey - these guys are nazis." It makes the point pretty clear. But also... that's something we could just message the list owner to make the list better?

310

Kalmia @appthren.bsky.social · 07/08/2026

The list just compiles and states publicly available information and lets people draw their own conclusions from it. 🤷It's not like things are being falsified.
