I should be writing tonight. My RtR update is late because I’m rewriting a whole frikkin scene bc the vibe was off But also, I spent some time outside and then some time inside a theatre, watching Digger before my tl fully spoiled it for me, so I’m not even going to open my laptop tonight I think🙃

It’s not that I don’t get the sentiment, but I truly believe different people read differently, get invested in different ways and seek different things form their stories, not to mention different stories demand different structures. So putting it out there as though it were fact rubbed me wrong 😅

I recently came across a post debating hard magic vs soft magic rules, where they argued that when an author gets bogged down in explaining a system that made sense, magic loses its…magic and its readers. I then opened my RtR doc & noodled on another hard magic particular in that world 🙃

It took 7k for them to meet. I’m 90% sure I’m going to be splitting this chapter up into two or else it’s going to be monstrous. Who’s that gal who wrote a tiny fic yesterday? Not me, clearly. Must have been my changeling 🫠 But hey, hopefully RtR update sometime this week? I’m optimistic 🙃

“Look at you!” Thebes breathed out as he stood slowly. “Kim Taehyung, as I live and breathe. I have waited a very long time to meet you again.”

“Eighteen years or so, I wager?” Taehyung joked feebly, before he could stop himself.

Thebes let out a laugh that was half shock and half amusement. “Yes. That is a wager you would win. I don’t know if you remember me after all these years, but I knew you once, when you were younger. I held you in my arms the day you were born, actually.” He shook his head then, as if reconsidering. “Well, your mother would have argued I was a day late, for you were born at half past eleven in the night and I didn’t make it to the hospital until it was closer to two in the morning.”

He filed that anecdote away to process at another time.

I just watched the fanfic movie. I love that I could tell it was a fanfic movie😆 It really hit almost all the beats I’d expect from a typical fake dating fic, right up to the occasionally hasty resolution. Idk if it was because I also write or cause I’ve read so many but I could pick out ALL of it.

Summary:

"You avoid the cases because it would be unethical to investigate your friends," Yoongi muttered at that.
Hoseok's consultant carried on speaking as though Yoongi hadn't spoken at all. "It's hard to admit that such murders have conclusions as trite as 'it was the butler.' They'll get there eventually."
"There is no butler," Yoongi denied, and his consultant, Kim Namjoon, spoke simultaneously.
"There is no proper evidence to confirm your theory. You are engaging in speculation."

It’s so rare that I write something so short. I always need plot+context+800 other things which make for long stories. I went against those instincts here as best I could. I treated this one like a sitcom pilot. A few chuckles, obvious dynamics, & setups. It’s experimental for me, in other words🙃

Woke up craving lemon loaf, so I made lemon…pound cake in the shape of a loaf. Tbf, every recipe for lemon loaf insisted on a glaze and syrup but I did not want something over sweet (is it just me?) This was actually a very pleasant balance and exactly what I was craving. As is.

I’m at that point where I’ve climbed out of a writing low, waded through my brainrot and reached some kind of high. It’s a really nice place to be in. I’ve written ~30k in the last week, I reckon. Half of it won’t see the light of day but it’s very satisfying all the same. I hope the mood lingers 🤞🏼

I know my attention has been elsewhere recently, but I promise I haven’t forgotten about RtR. Granted, I don’t know if I’ll make the September deadline, but progress has been made, I assure. It’s just very slow-moving progress this month 😅

“What?” He shook his head at the question, unconvincingly he was certain if the skeptical look on Taehyung’s face was anything to judge by. “Nothing.”

Seokjin shook his head once again. “I will miss you,” he said eventually, offering the half-truth up. “That’s honest enough.”

Woke up with a sniffle that I spent the whole day trying to smother. Unsuccessfully it would seem, for the sniffle has encroached upon my throat which now itches & expanded to blocked noses, throwing in some coughs to keep me from the bliss that is sleep. 🤞🏼phlegm doesn’t plan to stop by tomorrow 🫠

I’ve come to realise I’m big on freezing food. I make pizzas? I make extra to freeze. Stuffed buns? Extra to freeze. Spare veggies/herbs exotic to my area? I freeze Right now, I’m calculating how much Thai curry paste I want to make tomorrow because, big surprise, I freeze that too!

Was cleaning up my subs on AO3 today when I came across this YoonTaeJin fic in my lists. I know there’s a good chance it’ll never be completed but this was genuinely one of those stories I searched out after a causal first read. It’s not often that a story premise sticks with me like this.
