Took my 7YO son to the barber shop the other day. He’s had 1 year of hockey, and a few weeks over the summer. “How do you want your hair?” the barber asked. My son lifted his chin while the barber tossed the bib around his neck, and looking his reflection straight in the eyes, replied, “Mullet.”

Token prediction is not analysis. At best, it is a system that attempts to anticipate what the audience wants, or expects, to hear. Shakespeare warned us of the dangers of LLMs in King Lear.

For #MosaicMonday the mosaic in the so-called winter triclinium of the #Roman villa at Antandros. A kantharos and birds are depicted in the centre of the mosaic. The villa dates back to the 4th c. AD. Antandros is located in the ancient Troas region, 2 km east of the town of Altınoluk, Turkiye. 🏺
A photograph of an room featuring partially preserved stone walls decorated with faded red, yellow, and white frescoes. The floor is covered with an elaborate mosaic floor with birds and a kantharos, a vessel with two handles, in the centre of a circle of alternating triangles in red, blue, white and ochre, creating an optical illusion of continuous motion, a kind of swirl, surrounded by ornate borders including wave designs.
The setting appears to be an archaeological site, with exposed remnants of the original structure visible around the mosaic floor.

An ancient Greek silver coin depicting a bee! 🐝 😍 Minted in Ephesus, 390-380 BC. Photo Getty Museum #Archaeology
A Getty Museum photo showing a silver tetradrachm (four-drachma coin) stamped in high relief on the obverse of the coin with a bee viewed from above, within a dotted border. It is dark grey silver against a lighter grey background. Relief details include legs, wings, antennae, segmented abdomen and sting. The Greek letters, Ε (‘epsilon’) and Φ (‘phi’), an abbreviation for ‘Ephesus’, are placed either side of the bee. Diameter 7 mm.

From the museum catalogue:
“The reverse shows the foreparts of a stag kneeling in right profile, looking back towards a palm tree. An inscription to the right reads ΚΑΡΝΩ[Ψ] (‘KARNO[PS]’).
The bee, stag, and palm are all emblems of Ephesus, a Greek city on the west coast of Turkey. This city was an important center of worship for the Greek goddess Artemis, and the images on Ephesian coinage typically promote this association. The bee was originally the symbol of an early Anatolian goddess who the Greeks later identified with their goddess, Artemis; so close was the connection that the priestesses of the goddess were called "honey bees." The two Greek letters, Ε (‘epsilon’) and Φ (‘phi’), are an abbreviation for Ephesus. The palm tree alludes to Artemis' birth beneath a palm tree on the island of Delos. The stag – an animal sacred to Artemis – symbolizes the goddess' role as protector of wild animals, and may also refer to the sculptures that flanked her cult statue in the temple at Ephesus”
