I didn't manage to get to Edinburgh at all last year, but previous visits had been unsurprising, once the mess of the tram system build had gone, A spontaneous trip over the weekend was 'different', or at least not quite as expected. Maybe it was down to the weather, which was the best I've seen there during a visit for some time.

I never noticed I hadn't made it back to Edinburgh since 2024 - maybe too disappointed it was being hit by the same moronic 'Word Graffiti' scum as Glasgow. While I was in Edinburgh this weekend, I happened to cut down Candlemaker Row on my way to the Grassmarket, and glanced back at what I thought would just be the former location of the wings mural.

It's funny how you can find unseen items in places where you think you have looked carefully. In this case, I just happened to be walking near the National Museum of Scotland's 'Window on the World' display. Unfortunately, something I find quite frustrating as most of the items have no plaques or descriptions. The only way to find out about items displayed here is to consult nearby interactive displays, which are either faulty, or someone chose the worst touchscreen technology I have ever had the misfortune to touch.

It's amazing what you can find, even on building you think you've looked at (properly). My eye was drawn to the abandoned Hourstons department store in Ayr's Alloway Street, after I noticed workers removing the various Council notices and signs that had covered the windows since it closed. Looking really sad now, both the windows have now been boarded up and sealed.
