I seem to be forever tripping over closed places these days. First, Largs two fish and chicken shops, then this when I walked along the road. Having had to nip down to Largs recently, I decided to wander south of the town which, for me, means heading along the esplanade, past the ferry terminal. I'm used to seeing the Green Shutter restaurant on this walk, but found it had gone since my last visit, to be replaced by another eatery, which had only been there for a few years, but was already closed and up for sale. Seems I never took a digital pic of the old place.

I've been trapped on a bus travelling the Clyde coast for some weeks, forced to follow a back street diversion by massive ground works in the town. I decided to get off the bus as it halted in the bus station, and go for a walk. Greenock's a place I was once in fairly often, as I had to visit the docks to work on various vessels that were berthed there, but saw little of the town.

I have come to the conclusion that carefully looking for interesting items as I wander around has the irritating side effect of causing me to miss otherwise obvious features. While I scour building facades for features, I'm not looking at the more usual bigger picture, and just don't see the more usual sights. I've cut through the big shopping area on Hamilton's Palace Ground Road umpteen times, but this was the first I ever noticed a grey 'lump' supported by a stand when I happened to glance towards Asda as I was about to cross the road.

I just want a 'snap' looking towards Largs' Nardini's, but a wide version that included the adjacent church, since I wanted to include the attached 'TO LET' sign. The street scene was about as wide as I could catch, having hit the wall behind me and not able to get any more width. That was fine, but I missed having the upper part of what is a nice looking church - St Columba's.

If you've never come across Keith's Building in Hamilton's Cadzow Street, it's an intriguing building that looks like a two storey affair from the front, but has many more behind as it lies on a fairly high bridge. Keith's Building There's an opening on the left, leading to a hidden staircase extending to the ground below. This is open, and is a handy path to the glen below, for those who know it's there.

Embarrassingly old and forgotten/misplaced post from long ago, Finding this made me look again, and I don't think the shutter murals are surviving. Sad to say, another that had gone when I had a look, after taking the original pic back in 2015, in Shettleston Road. Coincidentally, this salon also seems to have been opened around the same time. I can't find much detail, but it looks as the shutters were always closed during the day (when the surrounding shops were open) by 2017.

You have to be careful when heading to the doctor or vet in Ayr. Wouldn't want to be half asleep and go through the wrong door.
