The growing justice gap in personal injury affects all of society, not just injured people. A drop in compensation claims increases the amount the Government spends on benefits, for example. Compensation provides rehabilitation, helping people get back to work.

This #IAWeek2026, APIL are highlighting that too often, there is a focus on the number of legal claims and the financial cost to wrongdoers of paying for negligence, rather than the human cost in suffering and upturned lives. The impact of needless harm must be acknowledged.

When one person suffers an injury, the impact does not stop there. An injury travels. It ripples through the family and out the other side into the wider orbit of that person, to their workplace, their immediate social circle, and beyond. #IAWeek2026

A post describing the ripple effect of injuries: If one person is injured it impacts more than that one person, partners may reduce working hours, friends take on childcare, grandparents relocate to offer support. The impact of injury spreads further than the statistics.

This #InjuryAwarenessWeek we’re reminded of the real human cost of preventable injuries. Last year, more than 430,000 people in the UK were injured due to negligence. Behind every statistic is a life disrupted - people unable to work and families facing emotional and financial strain.

This week is Injury Awareness Week reminding us that behind every statistic is a real person, a family, and a community affected. With over 430,000 people injured by negligence each year in the UK, it’s vital we focus not just on the cost, but the human impact. @apiluk.bsky.social #IAWeek2006
