the genre is basically just action games that DONT need good performance to impress. however, now that people expect a baseline of 60 fps from games, this style of game has begun to show its age and shallowness because they relied on poor performance and scripted set pieces to mask that fact.

posited this to a friend yesterday and it’s a thought i want to develop a little bit, but ive got a crack theory that the reason the naughty dog/gears of war third person cinematic action game genre was because of the poor performance standards of the ps360 generation.

unfortunately it’s an epidemic in basically any hobby involving coding, including other homebrew communities. vita is just the one i have the most experience in and the one im most active in so it’s where i first saw this shit happening

of course the patch that comes out on the day i buy control resonant is the one that everyone complains broke the game's performance, and as soon as i get in the open world the game just stutters like crazy, even on the lowest possible settings (5600x + 7900XT + 32GB DDR4 BTW)

RS34's games are rooted in the "caravan" formula - enemies come in formations, and you get more enemies (and points) if you defeat each formation fast. Caravan shmups have more stuff than what you can destroy in one run, so you have to filter out the less lucrative options to avoid being overwhelmed

he’s still fixing the absolute shitshow that is the arcade stick but i brought in one of my m30s so people could play during lunch breaks and such

he still isn’t done with this project but i have been playing around with it. proud of this espgaluda score i got after having not practiced the game in like 6 months (im playing on p1 side so this score is with no stage 3 scoring glitch)

i lowkey did almost fail one of the last questions in chapter 3 only because the line of reasoning for a specific piece of evidence (red paint) didn’t make any sense to me on first read but yeah the rest are relatively lenient

the timers in those trials actually got me sweating bullets and feeling dread, much like the characters themselves, and at least for me it’s far more effective to actually be made to feel anxious than just being told that everyone feels anxious

honestly can’t think of a timer in a traditional video game that i’ve played recently that was super memorable, but i will say that the timers in the titular witch trials of manosaba are a great argument for adding a little bit of interactivity to a visual novel, specifically for conveying emotion

wait i’m actually excited for this cause this was what i remember the vision that was being originally advertised for this game before becoming the mediocre extraction shooter it is now lol it typically goes on sale for like 5 bucks so perhaps i’ll snag it just in anticipation for this update

oh yeah if you’re buying sd cards, i would recommend getting a dual pack even if it is a little more expensive. keep one with the OS installed on it and use the other as extra storage if you decide to install the OS to the internal storage. that’s what im doing, just in case i need it for debugging

i’m pretty sure last few updates added dual screen support so i am very curious about that too…

i would recommend playing around with it on an SD card install for a bit first before installing it to the internal storage, as it will format your android install if you install to the internal storage (probably pretty obvious but just fair warning if you’ve got a lot going on there)

performance seems about the same as what you’d get from android honestly, but it’s far more pick up and play/user friendly than anything android can offer. if you want to play steam games on the go with one of these devices, this is absolutely the best option imo
