Cynical, curmudgeonly old engineer. Happily married and proud father to two fine young men. Unix and Matlab geek. Keen cyclist, modeller and book worm. Basically an inquisitive idiot & just wish everyone would treat others with compassion & understanding.

I’m not sure that I ever judge a book on the gender of the author, not consciously anyway. What’s the difference between RF Delderfield and Thomas Hardy, or Jane Austen and Brontë sisters. All have appeared on my bookshelf in equal measures, same with crime, SciFi, detective and fantasy genres.

Poor bloke is suffering from false causation. The no-go areas are probably due to his political leaning and not the colour of his skin.

Feel gutted for him, was on schedule to take the championship by 1 pt over Elfyn. But really glad Elfyn has the WRC.

Nightmare SS16 for Elfyn. If I read it correctly then Solberg only 1 point behind going into the power stage. So Solberg needs at least 1 point and be faster than Elfyn on the power stage.

Yes but there are lies, damn lies and statistics. Your link says 18% is number of claims, i.e. not the cost. Given that the private rental claims are on average higher cost then it may well be that a third of the expenditure ends up in private landlords pocket.

This morning, on how weird it is to see Brighton in such a strong position near the top of the Premier League: unexpecteddelirium.substack.com/p/the-monday...

The Monday Almanac: You’ve Come a Long Way, Baby
Brighton & Hove Albion doing a damn good impression of a team that could challenge for the Premier League title is extremely jarring for those us who remember when they played at an athletics track.

Damn I’ll have to get that book off the shelf and read it again to remind myself how good it was. It was required reading on my university engineering course 40 years ago. One of the few books that I have kept from Uni.

This is why Trump can’t stand Black women. They don’t take his shit. Let’s appreciate Rep. Joyce Beatty for being the fighter we need. Trump: “I think you’re incompetent.” Beatty: “I know you’re incompetent.” Then she reminded him: “You had more bankruptcies than anybody in the room.” 🔥

I’d like to see Elvyn win the WRC title this year, he’s been so close so many times. But then the new stars coming through next year. They are learning about consistency and scoring points so then looking forward to a decade of Solberg and Pajari battles.

The Reform led Durham Council are facing an £80M shortfall in their budget, probably due to their ineptitude - perhaps they’d like a little help to balance the books.

The sun did not shine, it was too wet to play. So we finished reading The Wolf that Ate Rocks by @russincheshire.bsky.social What a wonderful Bill Bryson style walk through the canine world. A keen observation on the joys and challenges of dog ownership and hilarious from start to finish.

I’ve reached the point - well actually, I reached it a while ago - where I’m militantly anti-AI. Fine - use it in bioscience labs and radiology where it might help analyse data more effectively. Use it sparingly for systems engineering. Everywhere else, it can fuck off.

Not sure to be honest - I despise and detest them unequivocally however they do serve a purpose at the polling station of splitting the far right vote. Until we get a form of PR then they do provide at least some purpose.

This need’s distributing widely. Hopefully it will make people understand what people mean by privacy concerns re SM, this is the consequence of being the “product and not the customer”.

Adrian Cherry @apcherrys7.bsky.social · 05/09/2026
agree, for many of us this was an obvious conclusion of being a “product rather than a customer” but saying so doesn’t help. Personally this doesn’t surprise me but just saying I’m avoiding meta for privacy concerns failed to convince anyone. This is powerful demo & needs a wide wide distribution.

They’re not mutually exclusive I can concentrate on both. And they are both laughable and absurd. I was just pointing out in response to the thread that Mason didn’t really accuse him of anything.

Adrian Cherry @apcherrys7.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
“accuse him” - really??? That’s the mildest accusation I’ve ever seen. Looks more like a question than an accusation to me. Mason replied: “Doesn’t that sound a bit conspiracy theory-like? This ‘the whole world’s out to get us’ stuff.”

Not sure I wholly agree with you there. They’ve progressed quite well on a number of promises. Actually I was kind of hoping they would ignore a number of pledges made to pander to the right & do the opposite, instead they have doubled down on the right wing policies & failed to turn towards the EU.

I'm now watching the BBC programme Race Against The Tide, which involves sandcastles (I don't really get the premise but anyway) and I've just realised why, on childhood family holidays, my parents encouraged me and my brothers to dig massive holes in the sand and the bury each other up to the neck.
