hmmmm ok going into the last episode, they've set up this clash at prom between the telekenetic girls trying to protect carrie (I think, not like they explained anything actually lol) and the mom of Carrie's imaginary psychic friend, who's trying to kill carrie. And then they end the penultimate ep on her getting the blood poured on her, cut to black, screams. but like.
ok the problem is, they've cast an actress who's adorable and written her so she's literally the nicest girl in the world, and it's just not believable that she would telekenetically murder everyone. If they'd put this episode after episode 4, where she's at her nadir, maybe, but they wrapped up that storyline with the whole mean girls arc. Which is why, actually, having her be genuinely mentally unwell and unstable would have been a stronger choice. Or, as I *think* happens in the book, have her be like, already having a bit of a meltdown, telekenetically lock her mom in a closet, and then go to prom the same night, where her night gets even worse. But no, the locking her mom in a closet scene happened an episode and a half ago, and the past episode everything has been going really well for her
like, idk maybe i'm built different [low self worth! and really depressed through HS!] but i feel like i could handle the situation they've depicted and not murder anyone? From her PoV, the night has gone:
- invited to prom by close platonic friend
- had a really nice night dancing with him
- the Mean Girl even had a moment with me, and said genuinely that I looked nice and she was glad I was here
- surprise named prom queen, after the principal literally says on stage "you [the student body] chose right [she deserves this]"
- pig blood poured on head
- shocked silence
