24 years after I graduated, a bit of my heart is still there. Though the hour north of there definitely has more treats! Hope the changes go well.

A few days ago, I stood in the graveyard of an 1100 year old church, getting damper and damper in the drizzling rain. A woman walked into the graveyard, waved, said hello, and, as we had previously arranged, handed me a paper bag full of human bones. The life of a churchwarden is a strange one...

@gregjenner.bsky.social looking for your totally chaotic books on Uk.bookshop.org and you don’t come up as the author (awkward when I was searching for you rather than the title…). Might want to get your publisher to look into it?

Listening to @gregjenner.bsky.social talking about Jane Austen on #youredeadtome, parked opposite this in a classy car park in #winchester
Shows a concrete walk in a car park with a type written quote on it “one half of the world cannot understand the pleasures of the other” J.A.

I remember one of @trefeca.bsky.social ‘s colleagues coming in and writing their full title + name on the board with “Professor” on it. “It’s taken 25 years for me to get that, and it’s new, so I would appreciate it if you used it.” (Having spent 20 years working in HE, I get this now…)

(“Those”, by the way did eventually work, helped by a brilliant community based maternity support worker and drop in group. Six years of “those” feeding over three babies has made me more and more angry about the lottery if standards of support and care in the early days of motherhood)

Also mum to just about a teenager but “you’ll never get any milk out of those” was the first comment I got from a midwife post-natally. This set me up for an awkward, hospital scheduled feeding regime for 5 days and eventually mastitis.

England in April. Blimming gorgeous.
A view from a height of a narrow natural stone arch. Through the arch a turquoise sea can be seen. View taken from the rocky shoreline of sea with large, straight edged boulders jutting out. The sea is calm and at the horizon merges with the sky.

In a twist of fate, having grown up hearing stories from there, my sister moved to Italy 20 years ago and now lives just 20 minutes away. I got married there - my wedding flowers end up in that cemetery.

We all need a timeline cleanse right now, so let's start the day with this lovely jug with an octopus motif, dating ca 1200-1100 BC. On display at National Museum Copenhagen. 📷 by me 🏺 AncientBluesky #archaeology
A beige pottery with two handles and a narrow neck, decorated with intricate dark brown patterns depicting a stylized octopus. The vessel is displayed on a white pedestal in a museum setting.

When I was a kid there was an excellent series of child friendly guides to cathedrals - things to look out for, trails, etc. had quite a few from the UK and I’m sure they did some in French cathedrals too. #justsaying

First book of the year was an absolute cracker. Always risky, as the follow up ones have such a high standard to follow. #Pachinko is a family saga in a period of history I know nothing about. Loved it.
