I’ve been working on a new cross stitch piece this weekend and it’s honestly the coolest thing I’ve done so far. I’m learning a new technique, I’m enjoying the rhythm of the work, and I get to sculpt and look at Audrey Hepburn’s beautiful face the whole time!!

I keep paying exorbitant amounts of money to have the thinnest skin of my bicep stabbed to hell by needles, and accordingly the pieces I put there are both memorials. It’s appropriate, I think, for memorial tattoos to hurt almost as much to get as it hurt to lose those loved ones in the first place.

Later in the article he gives some alternatives for unhappy postdocs, including “join a group for guidance”, “seek secondary mentors”, and “advocate for yourself”. Huh. Those are all great ideas! I wonder if there’s a word for the formalized process of grouping together to advocate at your job. 🤔

And yet, the poorly treated postdoc is not without options. He is not an indentured servant. If worse comes to absolute worst, he can leave the lab.
There is no doctoral degree hanging in the balance (as for the graduate student), giving all the leverage to the professor. Sure, leaving would be disruptive.
But life is not guaranteed to be stress-free. Before exiting, though, there are interim steps that can be taken—and they are best taken as an individual. Join a postdoc group for guidance and support. Seek secondary mentors. Advocate for yourself! Make the case to the boss for time off to recharge..-

ATILATNH: our dishwasher is obviously a major accessibility upgrade, but it also allows us to have accessible gadgets like this veggie chopper, which has made prepping so much easier to do. I’ve wanted one for ages, but I knew I’d never be able to manage hand-washing it. Now we don’t have to.

One of those veggie choppers with a lattice grid of blades and a lid you close and whack to chop your food into little pieces super fast. I got this one from the big amzn, it’s nothing special but it IS dishwasher safe and it HAS changed our lives forever

Another thing I love about the new house: the pantry! It’s a closet off the kitchen and it has the washer/dryer AND so much room for storage, it’s literally insane. My last place had a nightmare L-shaped closet where I once lost my vacuum for over six months. It accumulated garbage so easily.

Another thing I love about the new house: the kitchen is easily twice the size of our old one. It has a dishwasher and a double sink and there’s so much more counter space that there’s room for Gideon to supervise

I’ve seen it a bunch of times and this is still my best video so far of how they interact.
