The majority Looks Smaller because turnout was just 38.8%, compared with 54.1% in the 2024 GE. If fewer people vote the totals fall for all.You simply cannot compare a 3K majority in a low‑turnout by‑election with an 11,000 majority. It is just a collapse of 4% . Not a disaster.Not a shock.

What a lot of non sense that Mauritius was industrialised. I am a child of Mauritius. Prior to independent we had nothing. Mostly sugar cane plantation. Yes there were loads of sugar mills. It is now transformed- industrialised, tourism and a major financial hub… the result of independence.
