Russia still recruits around 1,000 men per day, according to the latest data from September. Under pressure to fulfil their quotas, Russian regions are very inventive. They try whatever works and copy what works elsewhere. The trend this year is payments to intermediaries.

Payments to recruitment intermediaries are the perfect business opportunity for organized crime. In my recent post, I report on a case in which a state prosecutor calls for abolishing these payouts because crime in his district is increasing exponentially as a result.

I believe that the Russian economy will soon experience a double-dip semi-collapse. The situation will deteriorate in the latter half of this month, leading to a series of bankruptcies in November. December may bring temporary relief, but tax hikes in January will spell trouble for many companies.

For those who don't think Russia's turning into a death cult devoted to the war. The additional federal aid to fight cancer will be cut from 1,73 billion USD in 2026 to 45 million USD in 2027. Moreover they only spent 0,5 out the 1,74 billion USD earmarked for 2026...

So in effect they decided to cut more than 96% of the aid. That's...yeah, I don't have the words for it. The consequences are likely going to be awful for all Russians. Especially since I doubt it's the only thing they're going to remove when it comes to the budget.

I don't understand why it's 'deeply disturbing', honestly. Kharkiv has been continuously bombarded since the beginning of this war, and so were Odesa and other cities. The means Russia uses have changed a bit, but there's no change of approach. The last 4+ years have been filled with war crimes.
