antony @antony.is · 18/09/2026Are we aware that a cycle lane is non disruptive to a corn field and amounts to clearing a thin strip of it? 120
antony @antony.is · 16/09/2026I want to believe it but one huge advantage of bicycles is that you don't get stuck looking at shops whilst the road unblocks. I cycle a lot, and it's A to B or a scenic route, not impulse buying from shops I whizz past. I love the ideal, but it's a dream not reality. Ban cars from high streets. 110

antony @antony.is · 16/09/2026Increase, not create. You can't just hope that shops form on other roads because you put a cycle lane there. But yes, cycle lanes are a boost to local business, not only because you can *see* the shops vs having cars block them! 110
antony @antony.is · 15/09/2026I don't think cycle lanes create significant shop footfall, most cyclists are just passing through. These properly segregated cycle lanes are already great, no need to send cyclists on a permanent back street detour. 110

antony @antony.is · 15/09/2026There isn't (or wasn't a docker desktop) for Linux. I still don't have one, and the cli is perfect. Docker desktop is just a macism and I'm convinced it's a mistake. They should just vibe-delete it. 020
antony @antony.is · 15/09/2026I don't know if it's a strategy, it's a symptom of being an incredibly populated capital in a tiny ancient country with roads designed for horses. But yes, here for it, in every city, and everywhere else. 110
antony @antony.is · 14/09/202630km is absolute child's play on a bicycle, let alone an ebike. The issue here is a lack of infrastructure. Nothing for humans, just a shit highway for a country plagued by a historical decision to succumb to the automobile industry. 020
