It’s not happening this year, but my Dragon Age hiatus (wherein I don’t play but very occasionally take a photo here or there) since the first half of 2025 is succeeding brilliantly. The urge to replay the series again is rising, and critically, any burnout is long gone. Next year will be grand.😀

Excellent question! 😊 Well, Louise Adaar does have the advantage of height, giving her a solid platform to try to spy out Josephine and likewise… she stands out in the vast majority of Thedas. So… honestly, she can just stand around in place and either she’d notice Josie or vice versa. 😆

I don’t know if I’ve posted much regarding one of my interests, but I’ve adored history based board games for more than a decade and a half at this point, and possess *far* too many of them. 😅 Most recently, I’ve set up and have begun playing Mr. Madison’s War on the War of 1812.

Now, that may make the character less “me” and more the writers, but that’s fine in how I play. I pour a little of me into each character, but I’m generally fine with each game setting overall boundaries on a character if it serves the narrative thrust.

And, on a mechanical and scene direction level, I can immerse more successfully when my protagonist can play a role in moments of weight alongside companions rather than have to mime their way along or stare awkwardly (Meant with love! )

A- Fully Voiced I tend to connect more, and so become more engaged with the decision making and individual morality of fully voiced protagonists. The drama hits harder. Whereas non-voiced protagonists can seem too abstracted. I like my Warden, but they always feel at arms’ distance from me.

I think it’s fairly human, and perhaps even desired, for a studio to believe in its creative vision and philosophy as compared to others… but I must admit that I tire of Warhorse’s attitude towards the RPG genre, competitors, and its pressing need to constantly… well… mouth off. Unappealing.

And building off of the War of 1812, its rather fascinating to consider how figures as defining (and occasionally disparate) as John Quincy Adams, Henry Clay, John C. Calhoun, and Andrew Jackson were products of the circumstances and contingencies of that war and its political effects.

It’s not a novel observation by any stretch, but I think it’s not always appreciated just how much American political and economic development in the Early Republic was driven and shaped by the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. From Washington to Madison, it heightened *everything.*

it’s a perspective at times difficult to reckon with given with how hegemonic U.S. aspirations in the Americas became (or are) in popular understanding. Those decades in which the young U.S. was buffeted and had to navigate the tight rope of battling European giants became popularly forgotten.
