It sets an important precedent for the implementation of trade measures like import bans in instances of egregious human rights abuses. The UK must not become a haven for goods tainted by human rights abuses.

Years of hostile narrative and regressive changes to policy and legislation have weakened the UK’s response to modern slavery. And now, the proposed Immigration and Asylum Bill will only weaken it further.

Survivor-led organization, No one Above, has been campaigning to get justice for the survivors of the Fayed trafficking network. But justice was delayed because of statutory failures in recognising it for what it was – human trafficking.

On World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, we are highlighting a growing phenomenon: the trafficking of people into scam centres. Traffickers often exploit vulnerabilities like poverty, displacement, or a lack of safe work opportunities to recruit and trap people in scam centres.

The 2026 World Cup is nearly over, but modern slavery isn't. Nearly 50 million people are still in modern slavery today. Some are the people behind the matches. Many are trying to support their families, only to be deceived & trapped in modern slavery in host countries. That’s a red card 🟥

Anti-Slavery International @antislavery.org · 10/07/2026
Survivors need time, safety, and stability to disclose their traumatic experiences. The proposed Bill risks further excluding many people from the support and protection they need, and plays into the hands of perpetrators who can use the hostile environment to keep survivors in modern slavery.

Anti-Slavery International @antislavery.org · 10/07/2026
